just rear-ended and pushed into the car in front of me - FxR bumper damage.. question

Anyone know how the aftermarket RS4 type options compare to factory? My autobody shop will probably work with me as long as $$ amounts are close.

never been willing to spend money on RS4 bodywork, etc... but figure might consider it during this 'opportunity'.

You could get the Euro S4 Rear for sedan or RS4 Rear for an Avant. For the front either OEM RS4 or do the RS4 look to an S4 bumper

have no idea.. since i'm not at fault and the lady who hit me looks to be responsible, i'm going to get estimates tomorrow to see what the damage is, then talk to her if we should do it through insurance or not. Both of our deductibles are $1000 so depending on cost she may just pay for it. I also read since i'm not at fault, i can just file direct with her insurance co, and not even have to go through mine..don't know if that applies in California though as i hadn't heard of doing that until searching google a little while ago..

trying to figure out what OEM bumpers cost online..but no luck.. genuineaudiparts is down and i don't even know if they do body parts or not.

I was just curious what the $$ difference between OEM and something nice aftermarket would be..

    ECS RS4 front bumper assembly:

    w/fogs: 1800
    w/o fogs: 1500

OEM S4 front bumper assembly w/ fogs"
(through past experience because I had a bumper-to-bumper)

Total w/ all parts (shocks, brackets, washers, etc): ~1500

Factor in labor/paint it jumped to 2200

^^ The only thing is that an RS4 Bumper will be more to prep since they need to heat shrink it to get it to fit an S4.

ACH tuning has the it for $1250 and $350 for fogs. And the Euro S4 Rear you can get from TMTuning for around $600 i believe but i heard shipping is killer.

    Here is the Euro Rear

    Oh I know.

He's taking it to an autobody shop so they're going to factor in more for labor. I just quoted him what I saw off of ECS and thats not including the parts to assemble it (at least from what I grasped).

All in all, I think his body shop is going to rake in nothing less than 3-4Gs for the entire front/rear job.

HOLY SH**** i had no idea just the standard factory was so expensive. I have a feeling if I get a quote for ~$3k for just front/rear bumper this will be going through her insurance..

only reason i'd really want RS4 bumper is my RS4 intercoolers come right up against the stock one and it always concerned me when i'd scrape coming out of a driveway that i'd pop a hose or something..heh (i need to go for a drive later tonight and make sure i one of the intercoolers didn't get busted in the accident! my fan in front of the radiator is cracked but thankfully radiator doesn't seem to be leaking.).

MAKE SURE YOUR RADIATOR ISN'T LEAKING OR CRACKED!

When I got into my mini accident, the only thing that worried me was the front integrity of my S, I was also paranoid that my bump somehow "degraded the integeral structure of my car" so I had the body shop do an overall inspection to make sure there were no cracks, breaks or bends. I also had them do an inspection of the radiator and front internals. Even though my accident wasn't a major one, I've heard that even the smallest accidents create the biggest problems (my cabin squeaks and it never happened until after the accident)

I don't mean to strike paranoia into you but this is an 8yr old Audi we have...might as well take every opportunity to make sure EVERYTHING functions when we take apart the car

One last thing, make sure the auto body shop has a lifetime warranty policy, that way if you ever take off your bumper and put it on crooked, you can bring it back to them and say that you hit a pot hole and it popped the bumper off its bracket...

no i definitely agree.. even though the damage looks minor from the outside, she did whack me pretty damn good - she was probably going about 15 mph when she hit me.. it hit so hard it dazed me for a few seconds... when i could think straight my first thought was "awe crap front and rear damage.. i just went stage 3 this car better not be totalled!!!!" i really thought the whole rear of the car (trunk and all) was going to be trashed -- very, very surprised to see just a gouged, pushed in bumper.

the body shop i've been going to for 12 years and have taken all my vehicles there.. they take care of me.

i'm actually heading off to the emergicenter right now because my neck is getting a little stiff and a little twitch of a shooting pain in my left shoulder. i feel like such a pansy based on how minor the damage looks.. but my wife is right -- better safe than sorry...

I'd go OEM RS4 front bumper.

Yes, it needs work to fit the slim-shouldered S4, but good things don't come easy.
You could do most of the fitting / shaping yourself, to cut down bodyshop costs.

If you decide on a stock S4 bumper, that's fine.
But please, don't go for the RS4-style Rieger bumper, I think they look awful - the lower grille openings just have the wrong shape.

As for the rear, I'd definitely go Euro S4. Looks better with a Euro trunk though.

I agree it needs to be OEM RS4 or just stock. I guess i'll find out tomorrow after the body shop quotations if RS4 parts can be substituted for close to the same cost.

the other thing will be lead time...i don't know that i can wait 4 weeks for parts overseas.. hopefully oempl.us has something here..

This happened to me a few years ago, only i didn't get hit in the rear it was the front so i got the Carbon hood, Rs4 grille, and a reiger front.I did my research and although i was semi flamed for getting a reiger front it was 757.00 shipped to my door. And the cost of a RS4 with the fogs at the time was 1200.00 shipped. To me that's a big difference and i didn't have the Coin to upgrade specailly when the cost of a OEM S4 bumper was 500+paint. Plus the fact i had gotten a carbon hood, the only thing that evend it out for me was the cost of paint i didn't have to pay for the hood went to the bumper, plus they had to paint the fenders to blend the paint.

Not trying to discourage you in anyway just make sure you and the body shop are on the same page.

yeah what sucks is my car was driven most all highway before i bought it, and even so now, so the bumper and hood have quite a few tiny chips. it's gonna suck having the bumper all fresh but the front of the hood still pock marked. i'll probably stay OEM in front and RS4 bumper if everything works out.

We've been shipping a lot of RS4 bumpers the last week or so, it doesn't take too long to have them delivered :) We can do Euro Rear bumpers as well though we don't list them online.

You know I was just in the same position (got my car back, finally, last night!) And I got quoted $2,100 just for RS4 bumper and heatmolding/painting it to the car. Euro Rear is what, like $600 from OEMPL.US that you can pick up in SoCal.

Also by the way depending on the circumstances and how the CHP wrote the report you can be partially at fault for the car youhit it is considered a rear end accidentand they usually site that you were to close to the car in front of you. So be careful with that.

no that's not a concern. there's wasn't any visible damage to the car in front of me.. she's already made statements to the insurance co's that she isn't going to file a claim, but she will be a witness to the fact that I was rear ended. no report written but Brea PD on scene took down license plates and watched us exchange information. I'm working direct with the insurance company of the girl who hit me, rather then going through mine. It's going smooth so far - is pretty cut and dry.

i was hit hard enough that my feet flew off the pedals - causing me to jump forward - i slammed on the brakes and basically just caught it right as i nudged her.
