OEM one piece headlight/EvoMS/TIP issue

Has anyone running the EvoMS CAI and one pieces headlights (on a pre-facelift, if it matters.) had any issues with the headlight hitting the stock TIP and not seating correctly? I'm having that problem. The back side of the headlight housing is hitting the TIP and causing it to push the headlight out further than it should be. I tried re-fitting the CAI to make a little more wiggle room around the TIP, but haven't really had any luck. Anyone have any suggestions?

I don't want to put the stock air box back on because I have mounted an oil catch can below the CAI, and I would rather not have to relocate it...

Any help would be much appreciated!!

a buddy of mine, which his car IS a face lift car (so it might be pre 99.5 specific problem) has the EVOMS intake and it doesnt push his headlight out.

You might want to try posting pics of the issue you are having.

I ran the EVOms CAI on my car way back in 2000-2001 and didn't have any issues.

Hmm. I had a similar problem and reclocked the turbo housing

mine hits a smidge, but doesn't really affect headlight position, and I have the exact same setup you're asking about

In the pic it looks like the heatshield is pushing the TIP over, but that is not the case either....


I may just need to try a little more finaggling to get it to fit right.

IMO, its not that big of a deal. You should have seen how bad mine was (just picture replacng that TIP with a metal one)

can you adjust that side of the head light slightly further out? Because that should give you a little more room and allow the other end to go back in.

or twist the tip on the turbo counter-clockwise (looking at the front of the car) to go under the headlight

just a suggestion: since you're in there. clear up those corners! ;)

no no no!! pearl white + clear corners = meh... I don't like the 'crystal' clear look with the pearl. It just doesn't do it for me. IMO it looks much better on silver/black/pretty much anything with no pearl and more contrast to the clears lenses.

I'm keeping amber lenses.




UPDATE: I bent the bracket for the intake 'U' tube that mounts to the passenger inner fender a little bit. I did end up tweaking the heatshield and CAI a little bit today and had slightly better results. It's not perfect, but it will work for now. It's going to bug me though...

you don't see it much cause its a pain to do, the angle of the pic makes the whole housing looked smoked

in reality its just the non reflective housing thats black

basically think the 2 piece smoked lights you see on e-bay but in a one piece housing

It looks like the true shield is pushing that tip into the headlight causing your issue. I would make the opening for the tip on the shield fit better.

I did actually modify that lower opening to fit the TIP a little better. The heatshield isn't actually pushing on the TIP at all. I tried fitting it without the heatshield in place and it wasn't any better. I think I need to rig something where the headlight can be pulled back in on the blinker side from behind.

is the filter hitting? the guy i said up there that i knew, said he used a shorty style cone filter to help free up some room.

No, the filter is fine. It's not hitting anything. I just need to spend more time messing with it. I did get a slightly better fit by fiddling with everything.

if its not hitting anywhere, then try to loosen the bolt that is at the bottom of the headlight housing (the one you fish through the hole for) and push it back that way.. my lights were sticking out like yours from the dumbass who had the car before me.. i did the clear corner mod on em yesterday and was able to, with just taking my time, get em even with the fender and bumper and look good.

you're a facelift though, I'm not, so I don't have the third screw hole that you fish through the hole for. that is part of the reason it sticks out. if that screw was there I could push the headlight up against the TIP and tighten it so it would stay in place.
