    relocating the cat converter

Is it possible to relocate the cat. somewhere lower, like along the bottom of the car, with the sensors? I mean, I guess it can be done, but will it pass emission expection? If I can do this, it would make life so much easier with swapping the cat with a straight when emission time comes around.

Also, will this hinder performance or make the ECU go koo-koo? (Then again, once I get rid of the cat, it won't matter)

    Re: relocating the cat converter

It can be done. Has it? I do not know. I plan on doing this later, but that'll be in a year or so.

You would have to extend the wires to the oxygen sensor and have a bung installed downstream from the cat. Otherwise if you have a "chip" with a catalytic converter efficiency code delete (most stage 1.5/1+) you can just make it look like it hooked up.

    Re: relocating the cat converter

All right, cool. Thanks for the info. I plan on doing this also, just got to save up the money when I go all out on my car. Aiming for 350+ hp, 400 would be perfect. Trying to get rid of restriction as much as possible.

    Re: relocating the cat converter

I had a HFC on my previous exhaust set-up mounted underneath the car with the o2 sensor right behind it. No check engine light and passed emissions.

he's from the UK though, so maybe the older AEBs didn't have the secondary 02 sensor.

AEB is an OBD2 engine. Therefore it has the pre and post catalytic converter heated oxygen sensor.

yes, thanks for telling me what OBD2 means.

I misread his post and thought he wrote that the secondary 02 was nonexistent.

    Re: relocating the cat converter

The SMOG guys only look for a cat, not that its in a certain location.

The guy that I had smog mine last started under the car in the front, worked his way to the muffler when I told him its in the engine bay..

Great info. This is very encouraging, makes me more persistent on saving those pennies to go all out for my mods.

    Re: relocating the cat converter

I only have one oxy sensor its located where my cat would be in a bung welded to the exhaust itself. No 2dn one, so i guess UK must have different regs then? Just for an O2 sensor pre cat, not after

Psh I don't need no stinking cat... I passed the air test without one.
