You may have better luck posting in regional forum, I don't know much about Jersey beaches.

The closed beach to E-town where Waterfest is held is Point Pleasant and then you have Belmar farther down the road.

Or slightly north of Belmar is Spring Lake. Probably the best beach in that area. Beach badges are required for the day and can be purchased right there on the boardwalk.

    How is Sandy Hook now-a-days?

Sea Isle is too far. Pier Village is a nice very quiet beach, no real boardwalk. I went to college down the street from there.

Sandy Hook would be a no go in my opinion. If you want to keep driving to a minimum then I would stick with Point Pleasant

    Re: Waterfest 14 travel info...

I'm not sure where exactly waterfest is in relation to Point Pleasant, but Point Pleasant is definitely a good beach to go to, it's got a big boardwalk with a lot of attractions. If you're looking for a lower key beach go to some of the beaches at the towns north of there, Manasquan, Sea Girt, Spring Lake, or as someone mentioned, Belmar. Sea Girt is a really small town (1 square mile) but I like going there mostly (could be because that's where I'm from ), just because there's generally a TON of people at point pleasant. When I used to live there it was a smaller crowd at the Sea Girt beaches.
