Looks like this is
16690,P0306,Cyl.6 Misfire Detected

I replaced the plugs (didn't really need to), the dealership says that it is the plug cable. So I looked up the price for a new set of cables and found:

Ign. Wires for 1998 - 2000 A4, A4 Quattro V6 2.8 30 Valve, High Quality STI Brand, for $152.

Seems expensive! Any advice on what cables to purchase and where to get them? This is for my 98-A4, 2.8, with 180,000 miles on it.

Unfortunately pre-made wires are not cheap, and be sure to get the right ones as generics will definitely NOT fit.

The only way to save some money is to DIY a set. The following write-up is pretty good if you choose that route.

I "believe" the dealer can sell individual wires so you can just buy #6.

Thanks everyone for the excellent advice and response. I have purchased a set of Karlyn STI_4A0998031_S from aboveallmotorwerks.com for $90.83 total. Will let you know if this doesn't work out.
