    spark plug pic. too lean?

im running BKR7E gapped at .022. the car at 24 psi will run great until it gets hot. then it starts to miss. if at that time i turn it down to 20 psi it runs great again. if i open the gap the car will hesitate all the way down to 15 psi. also the car has a strong fuel smell sometimes. i feel like i have this narrowed down to a plug problem. also the tune i have is a EPL tune but the shop that was helping try and find this problem 2 months ago had said it was running a little rich so they had EPL send a different tune. i think now i just need to get their OTS tune again and run a colder plug?? these look pretty lean to me.

    they look pretty white.

should be more tan like the nice pair in the second pic - perfect focus, BTW..haha..

also - any ECUx logs to see what your knock voltages, timing CF's and o2v's look like?

Check blocks 15 and 16 with VAG and see what cylinders the missfires occur. Is it all six cylinders? Could be a ICM issue. My bad ICM missfires got worse as the car warmed up.

3,4 & 5 at idle. all 6 cylinders when it hesitates at WOT. if i turn boost down in to a "safe zone" like under 20 psi i can drive without throwing a CEL and hammer on the car.

they actually look fine to me.

electrodes are supposed to be somewhat white.. but if the white starts creepin up the threads then you have issues.

mine misfired when it was hot too.. ended up just replacing all 6 coils.. misfires went away for good

Whats cooler than a NGK BKR7E11 that would work well? Im running FDR platninums and am thinking I need a cooler plug with a tighter gap..

the next colder plug i believe is the BKR8E-IX. if my understanding is correct with a colder plug you could run a bigger gap. i could be wrong but ive read more about plugs the last 3 days than i have in my life lol

Re: spark plug pic. too lean?

Try Denso Iridiums... I've been using them on my turbo VW/Audi cars for over 5 yrs now, and I swear by them. They don't need replacement nearly as often either.
Worth the extra $$ if you ask me.
New Coils, rubber boots & Denso plugs cured all my misfire issues.
