I'm not posting in this section, but my friend is considering to get 2001 A6 with 100k miles. It's a 4.2.
I run vag-com on it and was clean except for the engine:
    Address 01: Engine Labels: None
    Part No: 4D0 907 560 AE
    Component: 4.2l V8/5V G 0001
    Coding: 07752
    Shop #: WSC 02325
    WAUZL54B41N071730 AUZ7Z0Y1622006

    5 Faults Found:
16826 - EVAP Emission Control Sys: Small Leak
    P0442 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent
17539 - Oxygen (Lambda) Sensor; B2 S1: Internal Resistance too High
    P1131 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent
16825 - EVAP Emission Control Sys: Incorrect Flow
    P0441 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent
17819 - Secondary Air Injection System; Bank 2: Insufficient Flow
    P1411 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent
16706 - Engine Speed Sensor (G28): No Signal
    P0322 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent
    Readiness: 0000 0000

It has a weird pull to it, shot suspension, and a minor exterior damage. Heated seats, both memory seats, leather, xenons, shades. Seller states that it has OE radar detector which I think is BS (he saw audi logo on it somewhere under a bumper).
He also claims to have a timing belt parts and monroe shocks in the trunk and parts cost around $2k. I don't think it is reliable information.
Hopefully somebody here can give me some good insight and also what else is good to look for.
    He asks for $9,000.
    What you think?

    Re: Price Check Request

priced too high imo... especially with all those probs and potential for headaches
4.2/V8s aren't too hot on the market either because of the whole gas issue so surely you can wait it out for a better deal

    Re: Price Check Request

Too high and I would not take the timing belt parts. Buy those from a trusted seller, as there have been many, many instances of the tensioner bolt shearing and destrying the engine. Either there was a bad batch of bolts or a bunch of cheapo knockoff parts.

    Re: Price Check Request

    No.

    Not even worth $5000.

Consider that what needs repair will cost almost, if not more than the selling price, rethink that you're buying an 8 year old car for about $9 + $9= $18k.

You should be able to buy a 2001 A6 4.2 w/ 100k for about $12k...and we're talking great running condition, with no major exterior or interior deficiencies.

    Monroe Shocks? OE Radar Detector?

I'd move on from this deal. Sorry.
