Angry Coding new remotes... help plz

well my remote coding problem continues... I have bought 3 difrerent keys from ebay so far, and my car simply refuses to recognize them...
I have now learned that there are a number of different part numbers on those keys, and i'm wondering if i have to find the exact same part number as my old key... If so, why the difference, since the B6 guys have no problem programming the B7 keys to their cars, which clearly have different part numbers...
I have tried the b7 key, then ordered a regular c5 key off ebay, which my car does not want to recognize. I checked that part number on the back of that one, and i think it's different from my original one, hard to tell, the original key is scrated up with glue on it, i guess the previous owner did some DIY on it...
but anyways, my main question is, do i have to find the same key, or am i just doing something wrong trying to program it... I have tried the ross-tech guide, and several other posted guides, none of them proving effective... if anyone has ever coded a c5 key, please chime in...

    I've bought a C5 key off ebay.
    Part numbers have to match.
Then, you need to get it programmed by a tech at the dealership to recognize your vehicle, otherwise you'll only be able to open the doors with the key, but not start the motor.

I programmed the key initially with my other C5 key, and I got the doors to open, windows to roll down, etc...but could not get the car to start.

Hence, the need to have a dealer program the embedded chip to work with your car.

But definitely it's important to match part numbers for ease. I have no doubt that some keys may work with other models, but try explaining to the dealer you want your C5 key to work on your B6.

    Good luck.

p.s. I think it costs about $60-100 to get the key coded properly. Unless you have a tech friend at the dealership.

i just take the chip out of my old broken key and put it in the new one, no need for dealer recode. i just need to program the actual remote.

Re: Coding new remotes... help plz

While my post may not be helpful.........
Yesterday as a matter of fact, I had a B6 chassis in for a replacement key assembly which was towed in over the weekend since the customer lost his one and only key. Was able to do the Immobiliser Adaptation on the key so the car would run. Later in the day I had tried to adapt the remote with no luck. At first I tried using the vag com with no luck, but interesting enough, using the vag com I was not even able to earase the previously matched remotes and the car would set low frequency reception faults in the convience module randomly. In your case you'll be dealing withthe central locking module though but just about the same proceedure. So I tried using my VAS 5052 and was finally able to earase the previously matched remotes but still was not able to adapt the new remote. Using the testing functions in the 5052, I was able to find that the convience module was not able to recognise or detect any frequency from the new remote or any remote for that fact (as in other remotes from other cars in the shop). Long story short, looks as though the convience module craped out at some point when the battery had gotton real weak. Unfortunately very common for the convience modules and why Audi decided to start using them POS's, I don't know. Probably didn't have enough engineered flaws in the B6 chassis' to keep their techs busy...LOL. Again, you're dealing with a central locking module and those are also somwhat problematic as well but not as bad as the convience. I also don't know why the vagcom was not able to earase the previous remotes but the OE tool was. probably something to do with the module being faulty.

I guess long story short, I would first make sure you can earase all the previous remotes but likely I would suspect the central locking module to be faulty if you have already tried numerous remotes. nothing special on replacement there as long as it's coded properly.

i have a similar problem... it does not really erase the remote at all, but when i check the number of remotes matched it shows 0, but the original remote still works. the only way i managed to get the original remote to stop working, is by taking out the battery for a couple mins, but when i try to match the new key, it doesnt recognize it, it only recognizes the original key... what is that VAS tool you speak of

VAS 5052 and VAS 5051B are the Factory Diagnostic/Interface computers used by the dealers. The 5051B comes with a big roll around cart and the 5052 is "somewhat" smaller/portable version without the osciloscope function incorporated.
A google search will come up with some info you. Notice how I used the "

As for the car, if you were able to earase all the previously matched remotes in the central locking module using the adaptation channel, and one of them still worked, then I would definitely suspect the module to be faulty.

Do you have a friend with the same car who would let you temp. swap the module for testing. Just make sure it is of the same part number when you access the module, they should both display the same part number. Make sense???

makes sense what your saying, problem is that im pretty sure i'm the only one with a 4.2... not sure if the 2.7 or 2.8 modules would be the same, probably i guess.. i can't erase any of the remotes with vag-com, or maybe i'm just doing it wrong or something... i'm ready to give up on this thing lol

Re: Coding new remotes... help plz

All C5 chassis cars used electric locks. It may even be the same module throughout the whole 7-8 run of the C5 chassis. Though, if anything, there may be a change/split in 2002 as there were lots of changes in 2002. The C5 also had a few changes but not much. Also, C5 chassis cars started using Immo 3 in 2001, so that would be the most likely change in central locking modules if there was one, eventhough it doesn't really have much of anything to do with the Immobiliser except for displaying extra info in measuring blocks.

Somehow, this looks like it is gonna cost you more than $100 for all your time and effort.

I know I programmed the remote using the original and the replacement following some central locking procedure I found on the internet.

Unfortunately don't recall the exact site, but maybe this will help:

    http://www.audiworld.com/tech/elec36.shtml

    Just found it:

    Hope it helps you out.

Re: Coding new remotes... help plz

I just got a new non-remote key from the dealer to take rafting and kayaking. The key cost me $100 and was cut at the dealer for the door locks. As stated above, the key would unlock the doors, but when I tried to start my A6, it would stall out immediately as expected. The dealer tech needed all my keys and had to connect my car to the net to code the new key. There was no charge for the coding of the keys and luckily, my wife had left her remote in the car as the dealer is a two hour drive away.
