    B7 DTM steering wheel

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So I just got one of these B7 DTM multifunction alcantara steering wheels sold to me with a few other parts as a package. I'm not sure if I'm going to install it or not. It kinda sucks, since I sold the DTM shifter a few weeks ago, and if I install this, I'd want to install the shifter and see if there is an ebrake handle too. I'm already selling my B7 S-line wheel and airbag, and I think I want to hold out for the TT S-line MK2 or another flat bottom steering wheel. What do you guys think? I know it's a pretty rare wheel, but I'd have to track down the shifter and possibly ebrake handle to match. Is it worth it? Somebody should just buy this damn thing and make my life easier. I'm already amassing Alcantara in various shades, perforations, and sizes for my seats and interior, and then there's the three sets of wheels that need a refurbish, plus the supercharger I want. I need to buy a house, just so I can take out a loan against it for my hobbies.

    Re: B7 DTM steering wheel

I haven't even recieved it yet, but I can post pics from what he sent me. Hang on.

    My B7 S-line wheel I'm currently selling:

The B7 DTM wheel, pics from the guy who sold it to me with a few other parts from Germany:

And a pic I found of the DTM interior:

That's close to what my interior will look like, except a slightly different shade of Alcantara on the seats, and it will be perforated. Plus the headliner and pillars will be a dark grey Alcantara, and I might cover the dash in the black stuff too.

Yeah, now I just need to sell these two. I keep ending up with these wheels from crazy drunken ebaying and buying interior lots trying to get the right pieces for my interior transformation.

    Re: B7 DTM steering wheel

I went with the B7 S-Line Multifunction wheel at first, but within a month or so went with the TT MKII MFSW and never looked back. It's an outstading wheel in every way and a delight every time I drive my car. This wheel is even better than the R8 wheel which is similar, and the other flat bottom wheel for the Euro RS4.

Matt Devo had one up for sale for almost two months and just sold it a few days ago.

I know what you mean about drinken ebay buying. I don't drink so much anymore, but you can get goofy at 2am and bid on something you "gotta have"! That buy it now is a great temptation. Reminds me of the girl you pick up in a bar on Saturday night and then wake up to "What the hell was I thinking!" Sunday morning.

Check out ebay.de for TT MKII MFSW. They come up all the time now and you should be able to get one fairly easy.

Did you do the upgrade to get the multifunction working? Do you have RNS-E. Multifunction is awesome with the radio and blue tooth!

If you don't already have multifunction you will need a couple other parts.

Yeah, but I'm torn between spending the extra on the S-Line one, or just grabbing a standard Mk2 TT flat-bottom wheel with multifunction.

holy crap balls i want that flat bottom steering wheel, is there a tan variation, or at least for the airbag, my interior is tan, i want it to match and dont really want to do a black conversion due to the sheer cost unless i just got a smoking deal on the whole set of interior.

You can't retrofit the paddle shifts to the TT MKII wheel. The internal wiring harness would have to be changed along with cutting holes in the back of the wheel spokes to fit the paddles, which I doubt can be purchased seperately. It would be better to puchase the TT MKII MFSW with the paddles. On german ebay look for a wheel "mit schaltwippen".

Another questions has anyone fitted r8 wheel with paddle shifts on the b6?
Might work. Looks similar to the TT MKII wheel. Someone would have to research this.

Flat bottom steering wheels, heh, how silly. A functional feature of a steering wheel in a race car, adapted for street cars, purely for looks. Sounds a lot like the definition of rice. Just sayin'

    Re: B7 DTM steering wheel

Well, I'm 6' with long legs, and with my seat set perfectly for me, I actually hit my legs on the steering wheel getting in, so the flat bottom one would be a functional bit for me, plus it looks nice. I don't think it's rice for two reasons. It will be functional, and it's an OEM part.

    Re: B7 DTM steering wheel

I'm 6'6" and have no such problem. Not even close. Put your seat all the way down, to lower the center of gravity. The other thing is, race cars have a very low steering ratio, so the driver doesn't have to shift his hands on the wheel. Flat bottomed steering wheels + high steering ratio = stupid. Yeah, it's OEM, but not on your car. So it might as well be aftermarket, you still have to spend 1000+ USD (w/ airbag) to have a wheel that only looks better. But if you can convince yourself it's also functional, good for you I guess, you must REALLY want it.

    Re: B7 DTM steering wheel

I don't like having my seat that low. And remember, you are re-engineering brakes from a completely different manufacturer to make them work on your car, so don't start with how it's not really OEM. :P Also, I'll be well under $1k, by several hundred dollars, and since I'm changing from tan to black interior, I have to replace my steering wheel anyway. But really, the only justification I need is this: I want it.

I wouldn't mind having an OEM sterring with paddle shifters for my tiptronic. Anyone know of any options? The only thing more lame than having a tiptronic is having push buttons for gear changing.

Don't get me wrong. I LOVE my auto

The SW version with the paddle shifters is required, given that, yes, the paddle shift SW can be retrofitted. If a B7 SW is used, the steering column control module PN version must be the "N' suffix.

Cool. So, what does a B7 steering wheel with shift paddles look like?? Pics?

EDIT: found a pic. I was expecting Ferrarri-type paddles

Yup. I'm living in the UK right now, about 20 minutes North of Cambridge, England. I also make a trip down to Germany about once every six months, and I have friends that live in Germany, so I can get stuff shipped to them and then pick it up later. On top of that, I scour Ebay.de and Ebay.co.uk frequently and know the guys that are trustworthy on there.
