Has anyone changed a power steering pump on a B6? DIY or no?

I think my pump is going south. I'm just wondering how difficult it is to DIY. I've gotten a quote from an indy shop for $594.95. I'm willing to pay that if it's going to be a major PIA.

    1) remove serpentine belt
    2) remove three bolts holding PS pump onto accessory bracket (bolts are under the pulley but the pulley has three access holes in it)
    3) disconnect lines
    4) reconnect everything

I am not sure if you can get to the bolts that hold the PS pump onto the accessory bracket if the front core support is bolted up. At worst, you have to move it forward into the service position to get a socket onto those 3 bolts.

Figure about $150 (is that what they go for?) for the pump and the rest is labor.

Sounds like they've quoted you to take the front end off the car. (5hours of labor?)

How many miles are on your car? If the front end does have to come off you might as well do a timing belt while you are in there (if the mileage warrants that, 60k or 120k).

If you can find this pump for $150, please let me know where. I'm getting quotes like $400 to $500. Thanx for the info.

    I guess I was looking at a B5 when I saw $150. Sorry.

    How does $318 sound? http://germanautoparts.com/Audi/A4/Steering/164/4
