a/c stop working, please help

hello audi experts, I've search all over the forum and online but couldnt find much on this issue. I have a 2003 a4 1.8t with 78k miles, my a/c all of the sudden stopped working, this is really bad cuz in colorado it has been 98+ degrees. All it does is blow hot air. I took it to meineke to get this check only because they have a free a/c inspection, I saw them working on my car for a good 30mins or so, then they came back saying I had a bad air compressor? I find this hard to believe since I searched and searched this forum and find no one with problems like this. Any thoughts on this from the pros here before I end up taking it to the dealership??
