Adjusted coilovers today. Turned into a 7 hour ordeal. In a shop with tons of tools. PO had jacked them up all the way before I got the car. He also managed to fuck up the adjusting rings on one of the coilovers really bad. The left front was adjusted in 10 minutes with no problems. The right front adjusting ring was so fubared it looked like it was adjusted last with a monkey wrench. There was only 2 teeth on the whole ring able to get a good enough grip. All the rest were stripped nubs. Got so frustated after over an hour of messing with it I ended up taking the coilover off and putting it in the vice. Managed to get it to where I wanted it with some leverage. The worst was yet to come..
First off the rears had a locking ring, while the fronts did not. Can someone confirm to me H&R's have locking rings only in the rear? The left rear was able to adjust fairly easy after lots of brake clean and pb when all the sudden 5 threads in dripping sweat the fucking wrench refuses to turn. Putting all my body weight into it the damn thing refuses to budge, even with 5 foot pole for leverage. I ended up taking the whole rear coil off as well. Ugh.. I couldn't keep it tight enough in the vice, the damn adjusting ring would not move. I can raise the adjuster easily but trying to lower the spring the adjusting ring gets stuck in the same spot everytime. Funny thing is the threads look fine. After bending the coilover tool basically in half I decide I have to put it back on the car as is. This was after trying for hours to fix the thing. (wire brush, pb, brake clean, taking apart jacks to use long handles for leverage, jumping on tool with all my weight, swearing at the coil, ect.)
4 or 5 fingers rear, 1 in front. I adjusted the other side to match and called it a day. My quick adjustment basically turned into tearing the car apart. Wouldn't have this problem if the northeast didn't use salt on everything during the winter.
Does anyone know if I can buy one single rear coilover from H&R? Or if anyone has a spare. Im pretty sure I won't be able to repair the broken one. Some pics...bleh.
