Re: How would you know if your MAP sensor went out?

If I understand correctly, log measuring block 115 with your VAG COM (you do have a VAG, don't you??) to see if you're not meeting actual vs. requested boost. If things are looking fishy then you could have a MAP sensor out.

I'm sure an OG will chime in to confirm or refute. But that's a good starting place.

You mean the MAF sensor as in the outlet of the air box?

Well you would have a "Check Engine Light" and the car would run rough. You could unplug it and it might run better but in a back up mode.

If you have a Vag Com you could log block 002 and read the Mass Airflow Sensor in G/S (grams per second).

If you don't get a read out chances are the MAF is blown.

no he means the sensor that's located on the top of the stock SMIC - commonly known around here as a MAP (manifold absolute pressure) sensor even though i guess technically that's not what it is.

and i have no idea how to tell if one is bad or not... i guess do what we do with everything else. unplug it and plug the hole it came from -- drive the car -- if it gets worse, the sensor is good.. if it stays the same it might be bad

Re: How would you know if your MAP sensor went out?

I was referring to the MAP sensor.. the reason I ask is that I got the codes

Boost Pressure Regulation: Limit Exceeded (Overboost Condition)
    P0234 - 001 - Upper Limit Exceeded

Manifold Pressure/Boost sensor (G31): Signal too High
    P0238 - 001 - Upper Limit Exceeded

and one other that I cant remember off the top of my head..
The car started acting a little funny ie give it a little throttle and Rev's go way up and keep going till you shut it off. I had just finished installing the water/meth and thought ohh well maybe it needs a TBA, The test drive was litterally a slow 15mph drive out of the shop and around the block.. coming around the 3rd corner somebody backed out and hit me.. So i ended up with some right rear quarter panel damage and wheel rubbing.

Couldnt continue to test the car out.

Car drove back home just fine at low speeds with slight rubbing. Had the car towed to the Body shop, and they called me two days later saying that they gave the car a little gas and the revs went way up.. the next day the battery was dead so they charged it ... then the car wouldnt start.

Just thoughts here, I'm very far from the knowledge of people like diagnosticator
Did you change your N75 for the race version ? Do you have a manual boost controller ? Maybe your DV is blocked closed ?

Re: How would you know if your MAP sensor went out?

Time to pull out the good 'ol voltometer. Need to test all the wires at the sensor plug to the ecu for continuity (ohm). I thought it was a bad sensor on mine but found out that the wire INSIDE the wire coating separated by ~1". Never have I seen a wire separate like that 2-3" back from the sensor plug while still being inside the wire coating. Wierd shit. I might have an extra sensor lying around too if you need to try it. They are expensive.

Re: How would you know if your MAP sensor went out?

Would this cause the car to not start? Or am i looking at possible something else?

A friend works at the dealership so I can get the part at cost basically.. or I can go through worldpac

Havent checked cost/list though.. any idea on what that is?

Hopefully its just this and the fact that it needs a TBA
