DUI check-point! 97+ license plate bulb connection problems/ tint/ HIDs/ PIAA wipers

I was stopped at a DUI checkpoint lastnight on 222 in front of premise made candies, the first words out of his mouth were

"Good morning sir, Have any bombs, knives, guns, drugs, grenandes, bongs, or dead hookers in the car I should know about?"

I just laughed and asked "Did my girl friend send you?" and then had my balls busted for:

License plate cover

License plate, bulb not working. Until I wiggled the cover and the bulb flickered.

Window tint <--- was told it was illegal to have ANY tint in PA

HIDs, He started to bust my balls about my 6000k VVME's until I actually got out of the car and showed him the ballasts.

PIAA wipers, he tried to tell me they weren't approved for road use!

Then, the kicker was that he told me I illegally crossed a double yellow line. Which is true, I did when I was flagged down as the "Random" car to be checked. Which I responded "But I thought it was illegal to cross a double yellow only if it was marked as a NO PASSING ZONE?" to which he reponded "Ill have to check up on that, but Im not so sure thats true." Which was total bull**** anyway because they flagged me into the lot in the first place!

To make a long story short, I work at a local hospital and when he got back from running my tags and finally got around to asking if I had anything to drink I just told him I had 1 Lauger after working at the hospital over at Maxx Regal bar and grill. Then he went into the whole "Are you sure only 1?" to which I pulled the recipt from my pocket. After that he grilled me about working at the hospital I guess to check my story out.

Whats the address?
Whats the phone number?
How many parking garages are there?
Do they still run medevacs to your hospital?

Passed them all So then he told me how he had about 46 violations he could write me up for but he didnt want to take up anymore of my time.

Good thing I didnt tell him about the six-pack I drank WITH my buddy after work, before the bar lol

I spent about half the morning trying to make the damn license plate bulb get a good contact, tried bending the terminals, scrapping the contacts, tightening the bulb holder, and nothing worked. Ideas?

What was the problem with the HIDs and why did the ballasts make it better? Did he think they were just blue bulbs or something?

Pretty sure it's illegal to cross a double solid yellow in any state, unless you're turning off the road.

That guy was a huge dick, but you probably got off lucky if they didn't give you a breathalyzer.

i would still file a complaint though, at least here, passing on a double yellow is not illegal, it is the are in which they do not suggest passing, white lines are the ones you cannot cross. same with speed limit signs, the yellow ones on on/off ramps are suggested safe speeds.

Sorry, I worded it odd. WE drank a six pack together, I didnt drink a six pack myself. I had 4 beers with a full stomach of food, He obviously knew I was drinking and nothing in our coversation nor my actions made him or I think I wasnt fit to be driving. Nevermind the fact I work in a Trauma Center and wouldnt drive buzzed anyway.

Copper had to much time on his hands. Here in Orlando, never heard of a DUI stop or seen one. I guess they have to much other things going on. Some cops are cool and some can be arrogant and think they are above the law. At least you got out of it!

For future reference if you do plan on having a drink or two and decide to drive, and don't want to get your balls busted. DUI checkpoints are noted in the paper the day before they are set up.

^Seriously? Yea they love DUI check points up here. They had maybe 30 cops/ 15 cars and a paddy wagon there. They had 3 cars sitting about 2 miles north of the the check point to snag people who tried to do a U-turn. It was pretty funny, they would sit in a parking lot and wait for people to turn around and then go tearing off after them.

Must have been about 8 coolers lining the side of the road for the cops and chalk lines drawn on the road for people to walk.

I just figured he could smell the beer on my breathe seeing as I was at the bar for about an hour and a half and had to chug the rest of my glass at last call about 7 minutes before he stopped me. Didnt want to lie right to his face if he could smell it, figured it was in my best interest.

Yep go to the dealer and get new license plate lights. I had the same problem years ago. Both mine were cracked and corroded. It's common.

the tail lights appeared to have the clear lens second from the bottom I meant, whereas the 96-97 had the red/orange and the 98-99 had the smoked lens second from the top... indicating that they were facelift tail lights on your car. i didn't see the rest of the car to determine if it was a facelift, just that it had newer lights.

^Im lost, I dont do ricer flybys and my car is silver not white, with no exhaust or intake. Im not even sure how I could have done a flyby if that was you because I just pulled out of the lot had a red light and made a left onto 222.

I dont remember it being 2.0 when i lived in Arlington, i remember it being .08 like everywhere else.. but the deal with texas is, its NOT illegal to drink and drive, as long as you are under the legal limit.

You guys need to read before you start busting balls! One beer is nothing get with the times damn! If i paid the 4-8 bucks for a beer and it was the only one id bought, while being there the 1+ hour he said he was there, id rather drink what i paid for. Also one beer would have no affect on the ability to drive. Hence the .08 law!

Also no 2.0 in texas, that would mean you had 200% alcohol in your blood system lol

Dude - that's alcohol abuse. Finish your damn beer.


As for the non-operable rear plate bulbs, best is to get a new assembly. Those contacts can be hard to clean up and get working properly. They're not to expensive from the dealer.
