    Boy does she go again

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I made a new piece of intercooler pipe that connects to the throttle body and tapped it for my Meth Injection and also bought a few connections to fix a leaky system I had. I hadn't ran the meth in like 8 months. Well it is back rocking and rolling now and damn what a difference!

Went and ran it earlier and did a log as well through 3rd and 4th gear. It was 83 degrees with over 60% humidity and have the car set at 20-21psi with the boost controller and Revo timing 9, Shawn eat your heart out T9 baby haha with it pumping some -20 washer fluid through her with Shell 93 octane in the tank. Now this is with an undersized ecode front mount intercooler as well so with a slightly bigger core those would definitely be all zeros fo sho. Car is running awsome.

    Here is the log

    Not bad.

Is your timing advance curve typically that low? My advance is around 18-20deg and that's with my EBC set to run off my wastegate (11psi).

Revo seems to be completely different with timing. That is on the highest timing setting possible with the sps 3 controller. Running just pump gas (no meth) you can only run 4 or 5 which is like 5-7 for timing numbers, so those 12s, 13s and 14s are real good and are only achieved with race gas or meth. The car will not be happy at all trying to run even 9 degrees of timing advance without the meth (ping city)

Gotcha. Makes sense you're feeling a huge difference then. I am not familiar with the details of the REVO files. Just familiar with what my car tells me.

My ASP file is pretty aggressive with timing advance. I turned it down a lot (-6deg via lemmi) to break my new motor in (on the WG). That nets timing in the 12s with CFs around 4. I'm bumping the boost up this week so I'll be logging the snot out of it as I dial in the EBC for a 16psi and 21psi setting.

that seems to be the difference between revo and other tunes.... and in the end what steered me away from revo. i felt like i was never going to see the maximum potential out of my car with the timing they run - even at T9.. (i was shown a few different graphs with timing curves of various tunes, and my unitronic tune runs a lot like the ASP in terms of timing advance.)

Re: Boy does she go again

I dont understand how they tune enough to know how stuff works, but there is no way you could run high timing without pinging with the Revo. I dont know if they run more or less fuel or how it is done in order to have more timing with say ASP software. But clearly the Revo makes power since comparing the GTRS which is less of a turbo than the GT28RS of APR 3+ they make pretty damn close numbers tapped out on race gas.

Re: Boy does she go again

must be more fuel or something, cuz i didnt understand why revo ran so little timing...

but taking into account what you're saying that means that technically me, doug, josh, etc, should all be pinging our engines to death... but i'm the only one with a failure, and it wasn't a timing problem... it was a bent rod (which snapped in the end).

    that's confusing

Re: Boy does she go again

I had about a 2hr discussion about these files and timing/fuel/boost/CF's/... with Jeff from C2 back a month or so ago at Durtyfest. This is when I was talking to him about writing a custom file for my car. He said all files if maxing out settings are going to run the same (power wise). The car can only do so much despite the software. If you are running max boost (meaning raising CF's with an increase), running max timing (again raising CF's with an increase), and have CF's in the 5-6's, your car is maxed out. No matter who tunes it, if those settings are maxed, its at its max. There isnt an miracle in tuning, its adjusting settings. I showed him 100's of logs of my old GTRS file on the 3071R file and he said that if he were to make me a custom file, it would run and yield exactly the same results. The only things that can be "changed" are some driveability things: on/off throttle load, throttle response, and also modifying all the ECU checks: EVAP, SAI, ...

The file I have now is perfect proof of that IMO, I had the GTRS file and switched to the REVO 30 series file, logs still look almost identical, just a little bit cleaner because the flash is closer to the hardware that I am running, most importantly the injectors

Re: Boy does she go again

One of the differences I see, David, is I'm consistently carrying CFs in the 4-5 range and I have 630cc injectors. And you are right, the REVO software is doing something good since the car runs very well with that software and makes quite a bit of power. Shawn has a good point.

So the new file is working for you? I know you had some issues with it at first.

Seems to be working fine, I never had any problems with it, it was just the first thing I pointed a finger at when my motor F'd up. I drove 300 miles this weekend and didnt have any problems. My only comment on it was the logs looked the same but that just further clairifes what I said ^^ about the car already being maxed out, theres nothing more for it to do with the hardware on the car

I'm talking about when you called me or PM'd not sure, but you said it was running way lean. Are they offering that file in 8500 or should I ask Robin?

It is so great to drive my Avant again. Esp coming from a Jeep Cherokee. The 2.8 trans takes it up to some pretty fast speeds and that RS4 sway bar makes it handle so well. And to think I'm only running at 11psi and it feels strong. What a pxxxy I am running low boost. I gotta get that rpm wire hooked up so I can turn up the boost.

you don't need that rpm wire attached to turn up the boost. You got a list of the parts needed for the center diff mod? My buddy wants to do it on his B5...
