getting the damn roof spoiler to stay!...arrgh

so i had my roof spoiler on for a while, but as the weather heated up it seperated from the window.

I used 3M double sided tape and it didnt stay. I was looking to see what other people have used.

I think an epoxy would work, but my roof spoiler doesnt lay flat naturally on the window... there is some flex in it, so it needs to be pushed and held on the window so it doesnt bow up. That is why the double sided tape was so nice - I didnt have to wait for it to cure, it just stuck immediately and made the spoiler fit perfectly.

I am wondering if I needed to clean the window with something else before I put it on....

    any suggestions?

Before, I installed my trunk spoiler, I cleaned the area with goo-gone. But if this is getting attatched to a window, I would clean it up with some acetone, or a bleach of some sort.

Either way, I am surprised, I never thought roof spoilers with held on by adhesive!

How about 3M tape on the corners and then epoxy as well? The 3M will hold it down so there is no flex while the epoxy cures. When the tape wears out there will be epoxy to hold it.

Yeah, I was gonna suggest a few strips of double sided tape along with the epoxy.

You need adhesion promoter pads made by 3M and some prepsolve for cleaning the area you're going to work with. You can find these at a bodyshop product store.

I watched mine get installed after it was painted and the guy ised a silicone adhesive that was black in color. they put some presure on it for a little while then taped it down and told me to take the tape off after 24 hours. Mine stays down perfectly.

If you can't get it to stick by this weekend, get in touch with me at Waterfest and I'll direct you to my guy that put it on, he works all hours of the night usually

I also used sikaflex as thats what came with my BMW roof spoiler. BMW also carries a urethane adhesive in their parts deprtment thats available if u cant find sikaflex. I used the glue with the 3m tape to hold it in place and on 3 different cars they are solidly in place. I tried just 3m tape only way back when and when winter came the temperature caused the spoiler to just fall off.

I tried the doube side 3M tape, shit sucked. Ended up using 3M black marine silicone. Had to take it off to get me rear window retinted, took me an hour to get it off, that stuff definitely works and works WELL!

why the hell did u have to take it off to get your window tinted? Tint goes on the inside of the car not outside.

    Betalink works great.
    BMW uses that on everything.
