How can you separate the clear lens of the gauge cluster from the rest??

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I got rings and a carbon fiber bezel for my gauge cluster. I got the cluster out no problem & separated the two halves. But the stock bezel is glued or something to the clear lens. How do you separate it so I can install the new bezel? It adheres to the stock bezel with 3M double stick.. So I need access from the front, not like the snap in rings by themselves..

Please help asap so I can reassemble. Thanks!

isnt that just a cheap carbon fiber bezel sticker that just sticks to the stock one?

Yes and no. It does just stick on, but its really nice quality and real carbon fiber..

Does it maybe need to be baked like headlights?

you can pull it apart, but might wanna use a heat gun. I made some minior damage to the clear lens when I tried to pull it apart.

Maybe safer to bake it then? What kind of adhesive is it? An epoxy or more of a silicone? Silicone would let go if heated..

Just concerned about damaging it. So I want to be confident before trying anything.. How should I re seal it?

You can pry it open no problem, but take your time. I wasn't patient enough...
I used crazy glue to re-seal it.

Think I will bake it to soften glue and then pry... Fingers crossed!!

Dont bake it. Here are instructions to install an electronic boost gauge in the cluster, so it shows how to open it

^^ O and these work it is easy but there are like 6-8 tabs that need to be held open at once. A second set of hands really helps.

Re: How can you separate the clear lens of the gauge cluster from the rest??

Good Ol' Ebay! The bezel did take some finesse, cause it was a hair too big so it wanted to buckle.. But a heat gun & some extra Krazy Glue made that right.. Pretty happy with the results.. Took way longer than the 30 minutes I expected lol.. Baking it helped a lot. I left it in for like 10-15 min @ 180 deg. Pried open a lot easier and didn't break it.

End result, especially installed, looks pretty tight. I also hve a really nice carbon fiber ball shift knob. Now I need an RS6 carbon fiber trim kit :)

Does the gauge cluster work properly now that you've baked a whole lot of sensitive electronics?

Yes it works fine, I did not bake the electrinics. I had already separated the halves before baking. All that was baked was the stock bezel and the clear lens.

Ebay. Rings and bezel together. I think I decided to just have a plain bezel with the rings if you would like to trade for a few bucks? Saves you the trouble of install as well. Just bezel for bezel of course, keep your cluster itself. I think I just want the S Line look with the silver rings & black cluster..

    PM me if interested
