Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
so ive had bad gas milage on my car for some time now. when i bought the car i used to get 18-20 city and 27-31 highway! then at its lowest point it went down to about 13-15 city and 20 highway. right now im getting about 17 city and 16 highway?????? . ive ran an obd2 scanner on my car and shows no codes, i drive like an old lady (car almost never sees anything over 3k rpms) so i dont think thats the problem. anybody had an issue like this b4?

    Re: wierd gas milage.

Its a 2.7t an no I didn't change the octane (have alwayse used 93), but I did change gas brand. At first I used mobil, then hess (or whatever I could find cheap) now I'm back to mobil which I think its why my gas milage went up a bit. But still getting horrible highway mpg.

When was the last time you changed your plugs? It could be a number of things but I recently changed mine and saw a big improvement. I would start with a tune up if it hasn't already been done.

    Re: wierd gas milage.

ok so when the guy changed my spark plugs he gave me the old ones back and put them in the box that the new ones came in. i just noticed that the plugs he put in were NGKbkr6e and the ones he took out were NGKpfr6q. i remember him telling me that they were pretymuch the same (after a long explination) but the bkr6e were alot cheaper. so is he right or should i just change back to the stock ones? i remember i asked him to change the plugs because i was already starting to get bad gas milage so i dont think they are the cause of my bad gas milage, but i still wanna make sure i have the right plugs in my car. thanx guys

I'm currently looking into a replacement set for my Avant as well - and saw this on the NGK site:

The NGK site lists the PFR6Q as the suggested plug for an AUDI A6 QUATTRO 2.7 V6 BEL FI. Laser Platinum, with a .032 gap
    http://www.ngksparkplugs.com/product...r_platinum.asp

The BKR6E is what's listed for my 3.0.

    Re: wierd gas milage.

I got over 24MPG driving to the mountains yesterday.
I think you might need to get a tune up and No you do not need to change your plugs just after 20k miles, unless these are not the correct ones of course.
IMO best gas is Shell 93oct. use good oil and get it changed every 3-5k miles. try doing a Throttle Body Alignment with the APR program if you ahve it, or Vag com... there is also a more manual method in the user manual I think.
and Stay out of Boost, it is the key to good gas mileage on our cars.. Boost gauge helps lear how to drive efficiently.
Your TB might need to be cleaned up too....check it out. Does the car run strong?
Check your air filter also. it might be dirty
Check your tire pressure, low pressure will increase gas mileage by maybe 10%. Driving the windows/sunroof open will also increase mielage... A/C on... rood rack... usual suspects.
    Have a great day, Brice

    Re: wierd gas milage.

Well I just ordere the pfr6qs so well see if that helps at all. Gigi I wonder what the difrence is between the pfr6q's and pfr6o's? if any. About the oil change, I really don't see a difrence in mpg when I do an oil change but I do change it every 3k. I think if the plugs don't help I'm just gona end up changing my MAF maybe even o2s

Damn that's wierd, did u replace it becuse it was bad or just to see if it would help improve ur mpg? I want to replace mine cuz I remember when I bought the car they had just replaced it so I figured that's why I used to get good mpg. Also do u alwayse get a cel when ur maf goes bad? Is there any way to check if its working correctly?

Actually, checking your tire pressure can have a significant affect.
