Ok... 3 weeks ago I was driving on the freeway, cars on my left, cars on my right... So i couldn't avoid this BIG ASS FREAKIN ROCK!!!
So I unfortunately ran over it and it hit something under my car. All of a sudden my air was blowing hot ass air, battery light came on, my steering wheel was sooooo hard to steer... so i exit and parked at the gas station. Checked under my hood, everything was ok.. checked under my car and sure enough i saw something dangling... my drive belt!!!

Anyways, so I got that fixed, but now...

That day my air was working fine, ever since that incident my air is blowing hot ass air!!! I dont see anything leaking, do you guys think i just need to recharge it?? or maybe the stupid rock punctured something? I dont hear any unusual sounds coming out of the car either... GRRR help pleeease... Its sooo damn hot here in Cali and I cant stand hot air!

    TIA!!!

Re: What do you guys think?...A/C TROUBLE!

My A/C just recently stopped blowing cold also, but I didn't hit anything, it just randomly stopped. I'm suffering pretty bad too here in socal, but we have yet to be able to diagnose the problem. My mechanic has spent close to 9 hours trying to figure it out and still nothing. I'm worried it may be related to me having an APR snub mount that shattered in there, but I'll update you once I figure it out so I might be able to help you, I'm going back up to my mechanic today so hopefully I'll have some info by the end of the day.

I have similar A/C issue. Turned out the compressor was bad. The entire front end need to come off to replace the compressor. It was replaced under warranty, though.

Re: What do you guys think?...A/C TROUBLE!

We got nothing that day, and I went back today and won't be able to check it out again until saturday... this is brutal. I'm hoping I can get a buddy of mine to swap HVAC's with me just to test it out, but I am really doubting that's the problem. I'll post as soon as I've got more info.

Re: What do you guys think?...A/C TROUBLE!

currently in the same boat. One day the car just started blowing hot air. Just spent $975.13 on a compressor WITHOUT LABOR. Regretting this whole "I don't need and extended warrantee" decision.

    Ok, update...

So, Sunday night after my friends bday party... I thought, maybe I just really need to recharge it. So my bf and I went to autozone spent $15, recharged it... Now it works!!!! It's still blowing cold air as of today. So I'm praying to GOD that it just needed the recharge and not the compressor! <crossing my fingers>

Again, I really appreciate all the help guys! THANKS!!!

Re: What do you guys think?...A/C TROUBLE!

If it's getting cold that's a good sign the compressor is working. I would suspect a puncture in the refrigerant lines from some road debris or belt shrapnel if it goes warm again...

Speaking of smelly A/C . . . mine started smelling moldy on startup, but gets better after a minute or two. Is there a way to spray Febreze or something into the system to get rid of that smell?

Re: What do you guys think?...A/C TROUBLE!

they sell a product at most autoparts made to deal with this you spray it into the air intake at the cabin filter next to the battery, and then it seems to take care of it for a while. I have seen some guys change the dryer (since it may not be effective anymore) and there is a service bulitin if the system has been free of freon for more than a day or so they recomend to change the dryer, also if any of you need a complete recharge there is also a filter you can chnage in one of the steel lines (coming out of the cabin there are 2 lines one thinn er than the other, with a large nut joint, when you undo this nut the filter is in there). DO NOT DO THIS IF THE SYSTEM IS FULL AND UNDER PRESSURE, ONLY IF THE SYSTEM IS EMPTY. Hope this helps.

If anyone has read this recently there is a fix for this. The dealership explained it to me. After you turn your car off the AC is still drawing air in and when it sits it gets old and stinky. The trick is to turn your air off about 10 seconds or so before you turn the car off. Next time you start-up, you won't have the smell at all.

Re: What do you guys think?...A/C TROUBLE!

just wondering if almost every one, well most, of audi owners have the same problem with the ac shouldn't this be a recall or something,
most ppl make fun of gm and such but I hadn't hear them having so many problems with ac,

Re: What do you guys think?...A/C TROUBLE!

Same thing happened to me except I ran over an orange construction cone. Nothing was wrong for about a year until one day the engine fan kept running all night and drained my battery. Brought it to dealer and sure enough a dent where the cone hit on the A/C compressor was evident. It was the culprit that made the engine fan continually run. $2000 to fix because I was out of warranty. Boo hoo.

Re: What do you guys think?...A/C TROUBLE!

I'm having a/c issue's it seems to work on short trips but on longer trips 30mins+ it starts blowing hot air. I had Audi look at this last year and they flushed the system and injected die, they can't see any leaks. One of the mechanics told me its because it's working to quote "Too good" and the fan is on high enough so it freezes up? The last couple of out of town trips i ran the fan high (which is real annoying) and it held up some what. The A/C still wasn't as cold as I would have liked :(

I hate my car sometimes :(
