My windshield got cracked today....stupid truckers!....anyway, can folks recommend a good place for a replacement windshield. Is it wise to go with an Audi windshield or an aftermarket version? Prices?

    Re: Windshield busted...recommendations?

Charles, read up on aftermarket windshields. If it were me, I would do an audi windshield. It ain't gonna be cheap, but at least when you go to sell it, there will not be any doubts if the car was in an accident or not.

I had several windshields replaced on past cars and always ran into issues. Excessive wind noise, distortion in the glass in small sections. The installers said, "we use the same glass that is supplied to the manufacturers". ok......

Do a search on aftermarket windshield installation. There are several stories about cars turning over and the windshield falling out causing the roof to cave in.

If you do decide to go aftermarket, do your homework and make sure that the shop that does the install uses the good stuff to glue the window to the car. Also find out if they are going to replace the rubber surround and make sure that they don't damage the aluminum trip pieces. Good Luck!

How much are the Audi windshields compared to the aftermarket ones?

    Go this route.

Price of Audi windshield - your insurance deuctable = your total out of pocket cost.

I'm gonna estimate that the Audi glass is going to be over $600 installed.

You're gonna get over the cost of the windshield in a short time but you will always have to look at that aftermarket logo on a non-factory windshield.

I jsut read that article and realized that every piece of aftermarket galss that I had installed used that shitty butyl. Butyl is black and has the consistency of chewing gum. Damn authorized aftermarket glass installers.

That was a good article... well worth the short read and potentially applies to all of us! Now if only I can get those f*$#ers at the gas station to stop trying to sell me a new windshield and telling me they can fix all the pits. (this is actually when I used to take the G35 to the car-wash. I only hand wash my baby)

I had mine done recently by Safelite Autoglass which is who my insurance uses. I've had several cars done by them and have had ZERO issues.

    Re: Windshield busted...recommendations?

BTW ... on an RS4, OEM replacement is the only choice as I was informed there was no aftermarket windshield. I suspect, with the S4, there are many other options AND the price is lower ... good for you!

By the way, there is apparently NO Speedy Glass in SoCal ... so their price is interesting but moot for Dodge2Dub

    Re: Windshield busted...recommendations?

Go with the original audi glass with the 4 rings or Vw logo on the glass. I took my car to this place that had a killer web site only to get the glass put on with butyl. didn't know it at the time but found out later. Car is long gone and I hope tht it's ok.

    Re: Windshield busted...recommendations?

we did an aftermarket on a honda and took it back a week later and had them switch it out for free. had to argue with them but got it done after i told them that it a safety issue and that I would take it to court.
