Questions for you BT/BAT guys - rattle on tip in

Car idles great but on tip in I get this rattle.

The only thing we think it can be is the VVT chain cam tensioner taking a crap so the chain is loose. The noise goes away above 4000rpm.

Any idea what else it could be?

Anyone put a VVT delete into a VVT head? Does it throw a CEL?

    TIA for any information.

It will throw a code for the tens. being unplugged. You could replace it for a non-VVT tens. and just leave the old one plugged in to avoid the CEL.

If I put a non-VVT unit (part 058 109 217D) and leave the old one plugged in does it affect how the car runs since the ECU 'thinks' it has a VVT unit?

Not sure. I have mine unplugged and didn't notice anything. Try unplugging it and see.

So is an unplugged VVT unit operate the same as a non-VVT unit then?

Or is it not that simple?

I'm just sick of this rattle as it makes me sound as I have an old diesel engine in the car.

Re: Questions for you BT/BAT guys - rattle on tip in

Last question... from what I have read the VVT is used on cold startup and when the engine is warmed up the VVT is not used anymore. Is this correct?

Or is the VVT active throughout the RPM band all the time?
