Normally I'd do the calculations myself but I am unfamiliar with the OEM tyre size on the '90 CQ... so here's the question:

    - I've got two sets of good rubber for my A4 that I am kind of hoping will transfer to the CQ I'm going to be purchasing soon. I've got summers and winters in 235/45-17... am I in luck?

    TIA

    Re: CQ skins

Well purchasing 17s wouldn't be bad, but I'm looking to keep within the +/- 3% range... so do you happen to know the OEM rubber size?

Do you recall the bolt pattern? 5x100?

    Re: CQ skins

    Correction: 4x100

    Stock: 205/60 15

However 17's look the best on the CQ. Not too big, not too small but JUST right! :D

    Re: CQ skins

OEM CQ bolt pattern is 4x108 with ET35 or is it ET37.

    The difference between the OEM 205/60-15 (817 revs/mile) vs. 235/45-17 (796 revs/mile) is a 2.6% difference.

So the 17" tire would be bigger and your odometer mileage would be less than actual.

Go here to play with Tire sizing calculations:

    Re: CQ skins

^^^ Thanks, I actually just looked it up from the Owner's Manual after I bought the car.

    EDIT:

Had a snap-snowstorm last week, wanted to share my impressions of my new tyres.

Installed four new Nokian WRG2 195/65R15. I won't be buying 17s for the car anytime soon so I found a set of all-weather tyres I'm confident in... which says a lot because I often scoff and scrunch my face when it comes to all-seasons. But these are different.

I've got Dunlop SP 3Ds on my A4, and they're excellent.

Maybe it's the fact that they're narrower or the CQ has more clearance, but my first impression of the the WRG2s is that they're equally as good -- a bit better braking wise but not quite so good under hard cornering -- as the Wintersports. I ripped through fresh drifted snow like a hot knife through butter. Taught braking on very icy and steep residential roads. Can't wait to get them broken in fully and into the mountains.

(PS. I went with an aggressive winter-based all-weather because I snowboard in the winter and camp in the middle of nowhere come summertime.)
