largest size tire to place on the A4

Wondering if anyone knows what the largest size tire I can place on the A4. I'm looking at buying a set of 18" ultrasport rims but they have 255 45 18's on them, I know the stock the dealer uses is 235 40's. The guy has no problem selling me the just the rims but was going to give me a good deal if I bought the tires too. The seller actually bought the rims from someone else but couldn't use them on his car...they are factory rims so I'm assuming they may have been on an A6? Just curious, thanks for any help.

255/45/18 tires will look like truck tires on your car. The width would probably work, but that 45 height with a 255 width is horrible. To go 255 you would need a 35 or even 30 height. Save your money, and get the right size.

This morning the guy let me pick up one wheel to see how it would look, I rolled it up against the car and I thought the same thing, looks like I could go mudding with the audi. Ordering the stock size tires today.

^^That doesn't look terrible. I guess the bigger the tire the higher the thread ware ????? whatever the case it doesn't matter because you have it lowered so you cant tell how big it is.
