no 2nd....2000 s4

2000 audi s4.... car drove fine tranny felt fine, now when i got to put it in second gear it pops out...even if i hold it there it does not work....anyone have suggestions? blown tranny 2nd gear? or linkage?

how's about a back story here.....did this just happen out of nowhere or did you just do something?

welll i dont have much history on the car it was a theft recovery from NY and my buddy bought it in 2006 but never ran it, in 2007 he passed away and i bought it from his mom, and just got all the paperwork finished in the past two weeks and its been running fine since, and tonight i pulled out from my boys house, calmly, tried to shift to 2nd and it was non-existant, every other gear feels PERFECT, it feels like it just never sticks to 2nd, almost like it never shifts into 2nd within the 1-->2nd sequence, you can pull it all the way back (and hold it there while driving) and it feels like it acts as if its in neutral still but shifts into every other gear no problem

Welcome to the glass like MY2000 S4 transmissions, the synchros are extremely weak in that tranny.

Did you mis a shift or grind a gear at all?

maybe linkage isn't lined up? i swapped in a shortshifter and have that problem every now and then. Car won't pop inot certain gears. I just ajust the linkage and its fine again. I should probably use loctight or what ever on the screw so it doesn't wiggle loose....

my first guess was linkage, but im not to familiar with thre tranny on this car....2nd was "grinded" once or twice...where abouts are the adjustments for the linkage?
