Did you know what an S4 was before you bought it?

About a year ago, in searching for a new car I knew I wanted something with a turbo and all wheel drive. I looked at Evos and Subys(too expensive), some RWD bimmers(decent, but preferred awd) and A4s, but finally came to learning about the B5 Audi S4. Before I did my research (coming from the import scene) I had no clue what these cars were capable of. Hearing those turbos spooling from an unknown car is something I'd have lusted for before I bought my S4.

If I had seen my beautiful B5 Nogaro S4 on the road, I probably would have thought this:
1. Sweet car but, what the hell is it?
2. Bah, just another Audi, and probably slow because I don't know what it is.
3. If it were as good as Evos or STis I'd have heard about it, not worth it.

My question is: If you saw a B5 S4 with the MY 00 badges on it (00 because its less distinguishable than big ass 01 S4 badges) and had no previous Audi brand experience, what would you think?

ive known what an s4 is since they came out. i was into the VW scene for awhile before and have always wanted the s4. then i told my friend i was gonna start looking for one and he went out and bought one. needless to say i was pissed but it gave me a chance to drive/go for a drive in a chipped s4. bought mine the next day!

honestly,dont know what i'd drive after or instead of the s4. its a love/hate relationship,but i cant get enough.

if i didnt know what the s4 was and i saw a nogaro one on the road,id say wow and go searching online next chance i had haha.

Tell the truth, the first Audi I ever saw that made me really want one was a B6 S4, so I did some research and found out about the B5 S4. Then I drove a B5 A4 and liked it so when I graduated college I got a B6 A4

haha i always thought the 2000 badges were just people putting s2 badges on their cars... i never knew it actually said s4 on it until i bought my 2000 s4

needless to say i didnt know much about the b5s4 before i bought mine.. i had rode in one stage 3 which had me sold instantly lol

I fell in love with mine because of the noggie in the CKY2 video, then went all over ebay trying to find out what car it was. About 20mins later I found out the color was called Nogaro Blue Perl Effect, so from there I went to google with my new found knowledge and stumbled upon www.nogaroblue.com reading every little tidbit and watching every video. From there I was hooked. I wanted the power, comfort, and the handling. A few years later I met the guys at ssp and just became addicted........

Now I have a low mileage, nogaro blue, pain in the ass of my own.

I knew b/c my friend had one. But i love the sleeper effect the lack of knowledge creates. I cant get enough of the "I just sh*t my pants" look when i pass their modded civic. HA

When they first came out i didn't know what they were, i was so much a ricer back then. 3 things happened in life to make me realize what they were.

1. I saw the movie RONIN, which made me look the car up and find out the specs.

2. When i had my modded 2gen GST eclispe i ran into a imola one around my area and he tore me a new one.

3. A guy at the gym had a Nogaro 2002 with the alcantara suede inserts 6 speed and then i feel in love. And when it came time to buy a new car i passed up a EVO 8 for my S. Only knowing it had 2 turbos and AWD and the factory specs

Was looking over the APR website one day and saw the specs on their stage3 kit. I was aware of the car but after that day, i had already picked this car out as my next project.

i knew what it was when i bought my a4, but couldnt justify paying twice as much for the s4 as the a4 at the time. I even test drove a few s4's. Now that i have an s4 wow i wish i bought it in the first place. My coworkers always ask me about what my car is, when i say v6 twin turbo they are shocked and say they had no clue that this car had such an engine plus AWD. They only think of supras, 300zx, and 3000gt when it comes to a twin turbo.

in 01 I went to a dealership and want it an audi because it was four doors and pretty nice inside so I got used 97 a4 all I could afford then I saw a 00 s4 in the lot and asked why it was so much more and the guy only knew basic stuff like " it one step up from the a4" idiot!! anyway I did research on it and love it and said someday I will own one just like that. and there it go now stg3 and loving it.

it wasnt until i was going to buy an e36 m3 that i ever thought id buy an s4. i always seen them and noticed they were always $. it was either 95 m3 with like 60k on it for 15k or 01 s4 w/40k for 15k. the choice is simple if you want a car that goes year round with power. i had a 325is in the past and where i live i couldnt get up any of my streets :[ this is no longer a problem with the s4

That about sums it up for me too. Then my timing belt broke about 4 months in. . . .and the modding began. Now Jason knows me by my first name, usually has more of my money than I do, and answers my calls on the first ring. . . .sigh.

i saw my first s4 in my junior year of highschool (about 7 years ago). it was a nogaro, lowered and i loved it. it was a lot cooler than the jeep wrangler i was rocking.


i was just imaging how much ass i could pull if i was in the sport interior noggy.

About 6 years ago I was driving on the highway and saw an immaculate Nogaro S4 Avant (2000) driven by a middle aged woman. The entire back was filled with plants and soil bags. I distinctly remember not having a clue what the car was other than being an awesome blue Audi. It's an cool feeling to understand first hand how unknown these cars can be.

Wasn't really until my first encounter with an S4 on the street (which today runs 10's hehe) that I seriously began to look into buying one. Until that day, I had never lost a race... when time came to get into an AWD car and I was weighing my options (4 doors, 6 cylinders, FI, nice interior, subtle exterior) it was a no brainer. There was not a single car out there that matched... and in my opinion, there still isn't.

before I bought my B5 in 2001, I had read a comparison in a car magazine. After that, I could always spot an S from an A. I knew exactly what it was when I went to the dealer. I knew exactly what options I wanted. I had no idea what the tuning cpabilities were until I already had 80k miles on it.

I finally got to get my first car ( at almost 24 years old!)
I wanted german, stick, awd, and some power... looked at 330xi and s4. 330's too much $$. I test drove the s4 with a giac chip not knowing what that meant? 2nd gear threw me back in my seat. my bro hada huge smile on his face. I loved it and it felt like a glove.
Totaled it like 6 weeks ago and getting a nogaro 01.5 very soon!!!

I saw it in magazines first also..in late 2001 as i had been oblivious to cars prior to that (no income at the time to have any fun with 'em ;-) ). From the magazine pictures, the sport interior blew me away, and to this day I know I would be a lot less excited about getting into the car each morning if the alcantara wasn't there and the sport mirrors were missing...those styling cues is what sealed the deal for me (after all of the other obvious characteristics).

It really is an awesome car and to be relevant after so many years is a tribute to its success. I'm keeping mine forever.

My car was made when I was still in highschool, and I can remember reading reviews and car mag comparo's featuring the s4 all the time. The picture above was my background for awhile even, even though I wasn't really all that into Audi's, I loved the s4.

As I got older I had a passionate love affair with Bmw's, but I got tired of EVERY young kid around here buying one and thinking they were the hottest thing ever, and also the girls swooning over the roundel. I had always had Honda/Acuras, and wanted an upgrade from the TL, but couldn't stomach the idea of being lumped in with the Bmw pricks, so I ruled them out. My friend (Lego on here) has had a stg 3 a4 for nearly 3 years now, which I drove ALL the time, and absolutely loved, so I was determined that if I were to buy an Audi I'd just go for the gold and pick up my favorite, the Bi-turbo model S4.

Last summer I was getting antsy for a new car, and I got bored at work one day and started looking through 540's and S4's, and stumbled across the ad for the one I now own. I printed out a 540i 6-speed ad along with the one for the S4 and took it home and showed my gf, and she LOVED the Audi, as did I, so I test drove it the next day. The car had just turned 50k w/ the original owner, had the T-belt just done, had every maintenance log ever, and came from a perfectionist owner, so it was perfect for me. I was sold before I even started the car, but as soon as I put the car in reverse and started backing out of the driveway, I was completely in love. I made an offer that night, picked her up the next evening, and have loved the bitch ever since. I had originally been eyeing Evo MR's and Evo 8's, but couldn't stomach the interior. I'm happy I didn't settle.

i got the car when i was 18 i believe and i had no freaking clue what an s4 was... i barely knew anything about audi then cause i always thought i was going to get a rice rocket cause im asian ... it was either going to be this car or a bmw 3 series... bought the s4 because it was faster... now im 20 and im loving the car POWER TO AUDI!!!

Ive loved the cars since they first came out, but at the time i was a poor student so it was just a pipe dream. I had never been a big fan of Audis until the b5 s4 came out...and its still one of the few Audi/vw's that i actually like. Now that im more settled and knew i could afford another car, it was near the top of the list. My first pick was a 99 m3, but i couldnt find one in decent condition so i started looking for the s4. There were a ton of stage 3's on autotrader, but i have never and will never buy a modified car so it took forever to find a clean stocker with really good maintenance records. I went and test drove it and was instantly in love. It wasnt quite as nimble as the m3, but the overall fun factor was much higher. I picked it up exactly 3 months ago today...and its been on jackstands for the last two months lol. As much as it pisses me off, i just cant bring myself to get rid of it. If it were any other car that was giving me these problems it would be gone already(except the crx), but i just cant bring myself to get rid of it. I know it will all be worth it when i finally get it back on the road, but if i keep working these insane hours it could be a long time before i can work on it again. It doesnt help that i keep throwing parts at it either. I just got a set of vogtland springs and bilstein struts for it, and i have a few other things on the way as well. Its weird, the car doesnt even run and im still spending all my money on performance parts for it...this car has me by the balls lol.

Ive owned many cars, but the only other one that i love as much as the s4 is my crx, and ive had it for almost 10yrs now...so i can see myself hanging onto this car for a LONG time!

I've always considered it borderline exotic because of it's potential...I knew it all along, but never thought i'd end up with one. Mentally put it with M3's and Supra's etc.

One day at 6:30am in 2 feet of snow, on my way to work in my turbo'd 240sx (which never got stuck however) I decided it would be wise to make my next daily driver AWD...and preferably fast & turbocharged (personal preference). :D

In my price range, it was a WRX or S4. COULD NOT DECIDE! But then I test drove my current S4 and ABSOLUTELY fell in love. :)

Everyone was shocked when Mr. Nissan came home with an Audi, but I drive what I like and that's that.

I knew what it was, I work for Audi so I wouldn't being doing my job if I didn't. ;P

My first encounter though was driving down the 405 in the hog(old name for my A8) and I hear these 2 cars, loud as all hell, coming up quick on my rear view.

Low an behold....a Silver EVO (6,7,8,9,10,119192312?) was racing, and losing quite badly too, a Nogaro blue S4 sedan. I was going 80 and they flew by! Pretty crazy as they were weaving through the fast lane/carpool lane. Quite dangerous but I didn't care, I would've destroyed either if it collided with my 4400lbs+ beast. Very exciting though and a way cool first encounter! If that was any of you on here then you deserve a high five.

First off this is the wife of jwk2w, hi all.

I knew what I wanted in a car, and a list of probably 20 cars I thought I really liked. So my husband started researching, and discovered what the S4 was about. We started combing our town for a used one (extremely difficult), we found an '00 black/silver. Beautiful car. I drove it. The instant I took off from a stop light and made a left turn, and hit 60mph as I cleared the intersection, I was IN LOVE!! It became our mission to own one. And two days ago we became the proud owners of a 2000 Nogaro blue with the blue swede.

Did I mention that these cars are amazing? I just hope my first speeding ticket is not to expensive, that would cut into improving my new car.
