Can you use Vag-com to see real time boost?

    Hi,

I was curious if you can (and how you can) see boost numbers in real time with VagCom (I have a new usb cable from Ross-tech).

    How would I do that?

    Thanks,
    Rich

If that doesn't work try group 115 in the basic settings function. This should give you the requested boost vs. actual boost amount.

So i was playing with this today & used VagScope to view the data. It looks like my boost (115) went up at its peak to somewhere around 8000-10000 (I forget). I was really getting on it.

Does that mean my boost level is 8 pounds (or 10 pounds)? Is to 1000=1 pound of boost?

If you're stock then that sounds right. Unless you are somehow boosting 8000-10,000psi.

So stock is 8psi-10psi? If that is about right, what should a stage 1 chip (Revo, etc) give you?

I'm pretty sure stock people see a spike of like 12psi and then it trickles down to 8-10. I think a chip will keep you up in the teens, not completely sure though..

Depends on your octane, altitude, ambients, load, etc...but to give a ballpark they tend to be around 17 to 20psi spikes and will taper down from there to redline where it may be around 7 to 10psi. cheers! mike

Boost in VAG-Com is measured in mbar. 1000mbar = 14.5 psi.
The actual is boost including atmospheric pressure usually around 1000mbar
therefore a reading of 1800mbar =800mbar of boost pressure.

The specified boost is boost only no atmospheric pressure added in.

So I doubt you saw 8000-10000 more like 800-1000mbar. The best way to see what you are really boosting is to actually log your run and then look at the results after wards in the excel file. You want to do a 4th gear run from 1500RPM -red line(rev limiter) usually about 6800RPM. If you can't do that do the same thing in 3rd gear

Re: Can you use Vag-com to see real time boost?

I will try logging the data file to excel. I have a tip, so I guess put it in S & let her rip?

I am mostly curious about doing a before & having some data to see how the turbo is effected by the chip. Does the Turbo go from 8 to 12, etc.

I was using VagScope #115, is that not the right place?

when you open in excel you can also graph it out and show requested vs actual

I think this article will give you a good idea about what people have done to log the difference between stock and chipped (as well as different chips). There is also a thread on here somewhere but this one has all the linked pics attached.
