    HID Question...Confused?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
After doing research for 2 weeks I am still very confused. First, I don't own an S4, I own a B6 a4 that came with halogen lights. I bought a pair of S4 Bixenons to swap over since I wanted HIDs.

Right now, I have a set of housings but no hid kit. I understand that these take D1S bulbs, but can I just buy an aftermarket hid kit for these lights instead of forking up 300 + for them. Can I buy like an h7 hid kit and just install them on or is it required I get a d1s or d2s with adapters for it to work?

The reason I ask is b/c someone said I don't need d1s and I can just get h7's and throw them in.

    Thanks,
    Nick

it will work but u will have to swap harnesses iirc, yes u can get a d1s aftermarket kit or get a h7 kit and get d1s to h7 adapters.

    Re: HID Question...Confused?

Where can I get this adapter if I decide to get an h7 hid kit.

So to my understanding, an h7 kit can be fitted into the s4 lights as long as I get an adapter that converts it from d1s to h7. If this is the case, it would be alot cheaper than buying a oem or aftermarket d1s kit.

    Thanks,

    Re: HID Question...Confused?

just buy OEM! you fronted the cash for OEM housings, so seal the deal with OEM ballasts. you can get d1s bulbs cheap these days anyways. you may run into fitment issues and fogging from seals not complete where the stock ballasts go, and wiring will be retarded.

    Re: HID Question...Confused?

lol I can't afford another $300.00 to get a complete hid kit that is used. To me that is crazy and I would rather prefer to buy some vvme hids and stick 'em in there. I'm not balling enough to go OEM or I would have.

I don't see how wiring can be retarded if its like adding hids to any car. The problem I will run into is if the bulb will fit the socket. As for where the "OEM" ballast sits, I can easily make my own cover to seal up the lights.

So do they make d1s to h7 adapters or do they not exist?

    Thanks,

A pair of OEM D1S bulbs is like $80 on ebay. OEM ballasts are dirt cheap as well.

Why don't you just drive with your halogens till you can afford this: http://www.hidconcept.com/Kits-valeo-d1s.html (300$ for all those parts = great deal)

    Re: HID Question...Confused?

Where is everyone finding these kits cheap?

I've been on ebay and I've seen one ballast going for over $200.00...the rest are over $100 for just one.

I've seen bulbs for $100, but without the ignitors = the cost goes up.

Maybe I'm missing something, but if someone can find me a kit I would greatly appreciate it.

Note: I have the money for the $300.00 ones, I just can't justify spending that amount of money for them.

    1. D1S bulbs have ignitors included in their base.

    2. I don't believe there is a D1S to H7 adapter

    3. If you can't justify spending the money then you don't really want HIDs that bad. Trust me, and everyone else, you'll be disappointed by anything less than OEM. I had a kit on my car before that converted D2S bulbs to fit the stock H7 housings and the bulbs never seated right and the cutoffs looked terrible and the light output was even worse. $300 is well worth the quality of the OEM ballasts, harnesses and bulbs. Also... it's so much easier to install.

    Re: HID Question...Confused?

Thanks, I've known that for weeks that I can get all OEM parts for $300. Like I said before, I don't wanna spend 300 bones for an hid kit. I'll rather buy some vvme's and try to adapt them to fit and I was asking if I could.

    But thanks.

Dude listen, I did order some xenon housings, i didnt wanna fuck with the harnesses and mess up both the set of headlights, thats why i just got some oem halogen housings and threw in a hid kit in there, there is a 55w kit available if u want more light, the second route u can go is get euro ecodes from ecs tuning with the hid already built in, but they are rather expensive.
I'd say just throw in a 55w hid kit, light will be more than enough, google apexcone they sell some nice kits.

You'll be able to justify spending 300$ after you get a price check for the same components, at your local stealership

    Re: HID Question...Confused?

Thanks prey for your help. Yea I've had these lights up for sale b/c I figured it would be better to throw in some hids into my regular halogen lights.

At our local Audi meet, I've seen a couple of guys running them in halogen projectors and they look just as good as the oem ones without glare. I basically bought these b/c everyone bashed this idea so I figured I would go OEM.

I suggest you sell the Bi-Xenons and buy an OEM HID kit to fit to your halogen housings. Then buy ecodes when you can afford them.
