    Dreaded CVT problems...part query

    Hello everyone!

My first post to this Audi community and sadly not a good start with a problem question. Hopefully other posts will be on a more happy note.

I guess everyone knows the control unit for the CVT gearbox are prone to fail like on my 2004 A4 1.8T. The part that needs to be replaced on my car is # 8E0910155K but has this been superceded or not wih a better part? Where can I buy this part the cheapest?

I dont wish to fix the ECU for the problem to reappear after xx kms. If a newer part is available it may last longer and save me lot of headache and money down the line. Please dont say that installing the 7sp as this will be too costly for me.

    Vagcom check shows below:

Address 02: Auto Trans Labels: 01J-927-156.lbl

    Part No SW: 8E0 910 155 K HW: 01J 927 156 HH
    Component: V30 01J 1.8l5VT RdW 3120
    Revision: 00000004 Serial number: 00000000462115
    Coding: 0000001
    Shop #: WSC 00999 444 64523
    1 Fault Found:
18201 - Transmission Output Speed Sensor 2 (G196): No Signal
    P1793 - 000 - -
    Freeze Frame:
    RPM: 1056 /min
    RPM: 800 /min
    RPM: 60 /min
    (no units): 2.0
    Torque: 22.0 Nm
    Temperature: 59.0°C
    T.B. Angle: 0.0°
    Bin. Bits: 1000 0 1

Cross checking the ECU part number it appears my gearbox is type "GZL" which is the 6sp CVT automatic.

    Thanks

    J

    Re: Dreaded CVT problems...part query

Weird, manual doesn't list that DTC by itself,
the only thing I found was:

    Note on DTC 18181 / P1773:
If DTC 18201 / P1793 is displayed in addition, the sensor wheel may be faulty and the transmission must be replaced.
I will look up part number on ETKA, but my version is kind of old, so it won't be too reliable.
Anyway, maybe it is just bad wiring. I never seen CVT tranny before so I have no clue.
