    maf again?

How long does a MAF usually last I had to change one before and it lasted well over a year then I got a new one swapped it out 3 months ago and it's already gone bad again. These things are not cheap and I don't want to keep replacing them. I called the dealer and they told me that if they would have installed it they would have given me a warrenty on it but because they didn't I just have to buy a new one. I told them there was no way that I would have had them replace the part in the first place and that I have been working on vag cars for years. It takes me 10 minutes to swap out and there would be no way that I woul let them charge me $400 or more to change it. They built the part and sold it to me they should replace it if it is faulty right?

Yes, you should have a one year warranty on the part. Let me know I have a good used spare sensor.

    Re: maf again?

I took it in and asked them to check it out. It turns out that it is one of the wires leading into the MAF that is causing the problem. They hooked up a new MAF and it still pulled the same codes. Now they said they want to charge me $120 just to diagnose which wire it is and then they said they don't know how long it will take to fix so they couldn't give me a price. I assume they will want to add a few more hundred on top of that. The real shitty part is that I had mentioned the problem to Desert Audi a long time ago while it was still under warrenty and they said not to worry about it and gauranteed me taht it won't cause problems. Of course now that I brought it up to them they have no record so far of the conversation and can;t do anything about it. What a crock of shit. I pissed because i really don't have money for this right now but I need my car to work.

How bad is it for the car if you drive on a bad MAF? I think I have to replace mine but it could be something else.

It will burn either too rich or too lean since ECU can not accurately tell how much air mass or flow it is inducing. Prolong use may cause problems, running lean or rich can damage the engine since the air/fuel mixture will not burn correctly, causing predetonation, etc.

what do those guys that are MAF less do then to avoid that? I think mine is faulty becuase the check engine light will come on and then go off and the code i get is the lean one. Thats why I ask becuase I should probably get it replaced.

They must replace it with something else? Not all cars have MAF's. There maybe a way to bypass?
