    97 A6 Dent

5 weeks old for me, body has some scratches, two minor dings, however one of the lovely children who ride their bikes in the neighborhood ran into the driver side fender yesterday. I didn't catch the SOB, but it's pretty clear that is what happened. I tried to find a tape measure , couldn't of course ,
I think it's about 8inches with some minor scratching past it.

I'm going to get an estimate it on it. Just thought I'd show it and get some opinions perhaps about what a job like this might cost and how it would / should be done.

    Re: 97 A6 Dent

I just got an estimate for a dent on my rear fender. The shop quoted me $841 for the repair. The estimator stated that they will re-shape the fender, prep, primer and paint the are damaged. They will also need to blend the new paint to the surrounding area of the body damage.

From your pictures (it doesn't look like the paint was damaged), you might be able to get away with employing the service of a "paintless dent remover". I had a similar dent on my previous A4, and the PDR tech charged me $200. Here's a link: http://www.dentwizard.com/content/11...umer_home.aspx

    Hope this helps a bit.

It looks like you can get the one caused by the bike done through a paintless dent service. You could ask your dealer who they use and in my case the dealer had no problem giving me their number. If you have good insurance they will take care of it without changing your insurance rates because you are at no fault and it's pretty obvious.

Now in regards to Mac's issue that could be different because in my case I have a sedan and the rear quarter panel is made of aluminum I am not sure if the Avant has an aluminum ass as well... In many cases aluminum fenders cannot be worked on because aluminum is prone to snaping, so when I got a dent that was about 2 X 4" they had to replace the entire quarter panel. It was about $700.00 and the lady that hit me was nice enough to leave her info so her insurance paid for it. I wonder if the shop guy that gave you the estimate is familiar with how Audis are built because it's happened that they quote one thing and then they find out that they can't work on it the way they thought they would and instead opt to bend you over for their mistakes... Yikes!!! I gues just check into it...

Yeah I'm going to check into it regarding the aluminum. The claims adjuster though (is coming over tomorrow) said that it was odd that they would want to blend the hood. She said it's usually the door they blend because the hood is another plane. I wanted to tell her she was on another plane but I replied with a what's the difference then it just depends where one is standing but the car still needs to look right.

Anyway, the insurance maybe a wash cause it's considered collision where we have a 1000 (in Austin Powers voice) dollar deductible. Still the adjuster is coming cause she believes if it is the door that needs to be blended it could well go over a grand. I'll see.

On the other hand I'm going to the paintless dent place and have them tell me what they think. The scratches are minor, the dent is the real story, so if they could get that out for less then a grand that might be the way to go as well.

Alright now for a quick rant - why can't children be better supervised by their caretakers. Oh well.

    Peace

have you priced the fender yourself?
    dealer or CAPA replacement?

thats pretty big for PDR. It wont look perfect but if thats something you can live live & they guarantee it 'close' or $back. it 'may' be worth a shot.

Well the bottom line - the adjuster was out today. She's in agreement with the one body shop I went too, that paintless dent removal won't work for this - too deep and too sharp on the inside edge. I can lower the cost by not doing the blending, there is a chance, that it won't need the blending. Difficult to say now.

I'm still going to shop around , the adjuster gave me an estimate of 700 and that's to blend the door. I will live with the scar for the short term because the water pump is going so priorities.

Anyway, thanks for all the help !
