Help! Got Jerked and need advice about my s4's headlights

2000 Nogaro Blue s4 6 speed
Salvage title because the car was stolen before I owned it (I bought it October 2006), and the thieves stole the headlights, and I bet you know where this is going.

I noticed I had a headlight out so I decided to upgrade from the stock color to 5000k 2ds. Bulbs came today, opened up the hood and took a closer look and realized I don't even have hids! They are h7 regular old bulbs, they are genuine Audi s4 headlights but no ballasts. I am beyond pissed.

My dilemma is should i get an h7 hid kit, buy new headlight assemblies, or just leave it the way it is. Thanks for any advice.

Get a h7 Hid kit. In less you are worried about having true HID beam pattern. Id be willing to sell my stock HID's lights, ballast bulbs ect.

s4 headlights don't use H7 lows unless you run adapters. you sure it's not a4 halogen housings?

I checked a few car part websites and you can buy s4 headlight assemblies that are not hid ready. SO i guess the body shop that repaired my car before I bought it saved 1000 by not replacing the hids.

I think those are called A4 housings. I recall that every S4 that was sold in the states came with HID standard.

Whether they are stock S4 or A4 housings, as long as they are projector you can get a VVME HID kit shipped for pretty cheap. If they are S4 housings, w/ A4 (halogen) internals then the HID kit should work well. Just a thought....

My car has halogen lights, maybe its a Canadian car thing??? We don't have Fogs either.

yea the a4 had halogens in the early 99-01, hid as an option. Id pick up a set of 55w HID H7 and call it a day.

no canadian car had HID due to the stupid bumper laws.

we have h7 high and h7 low.

I use an e-code halogen headlight now with an h7 HID kit.

300 for the lights, 160 shipped for the HID kit.

no complaints.

I ordered an h7 hid kit from ebay. Running all the wires and mounting the ballasts is gonna be a bitch when trying to make it look professional. I'll take pics when I'm done in a few days. Thanks for the advice people~

your fine with the d2s bulbs. all you need to do is machine a tiny little adapter out of aluminum to install them in the h7 location. there was an hid guy on here who used to make them, i forgot his name. if someone knows his name or has the item picture, please post

its about the thickness of a washer and looks like this picture i made


that piece slides over the d2s bulb and allows you to install it in the h7 housing.
