Question So I'm curious for some 3.2 ideas.

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I've got an A3 3.2, and i'm not sure whether I should start modding it, or if I should wait and get a G37 or Evo X when I can afford them. Also, i'm curious if I would be able to use R32 powertrain parts (CAI, etc...) since it's so hard to find good upgrades that aren't ridiculously expensive for the 3.2 engine. If I we're to mod this car, I'd keep it for quite some time and really go crazy with it.

    Thanks for any help.

Try the A3 forum at fourtitude (more traffic over there). Fourtitude has a 3.2 mods sticky which should give you an idea of whether or not this is the car to mod for you. I'm pretty sure most R32 upgrades will work w/ the A3 (intake, exhaust, ECU) but people w/ more knowledge than me should be able to give you more specifics.

As for me, I am planning on lightly modding my 3.2 - 19" wheels/ Neuspeed intake+exhaust/ shocks+springs/ Oettinger rear skirt (single exhaust version) and side skirts/ Cupra R lip spoiler... and that's pretty much all she wrote for my A3 - well maybe chip also

pretty much the 3.2 and mkv r32 upgrades are almost identical.

what type of upgrades are you looking for? speed, performance? i have a milltek exhaust, revo chip, vf short ram intake, haldex gen II upgrade, ksport coilovers, and a CF hood as "major" upgrades

What are you looking to use your 3.2 for? Occasional track/auto x? Drag race? Daily driver with some performance?

If you are looking for raw power/performance, go for the EVO X. It's no contest. Dollar for dollar, it will never be able to match the EVO. G35/37 is not as fast as you think, its torque is awesome in a drag, but its weight makes it a sub par track car. My lightly modded 3.2 is much easier to drive on a track.

As the poster above said, look at the sticky on vortex. Basically, haldex II controller should be your first mod. Chipping will also gain some power. Unless you have 10k sitting around for a turbo kit, that's about as far as you can go.

I was thinking Revo chip, neuspeed exhaust/intake, k/w suspension, maybe some BBS LM's. K&N CAI...

daily driver that can run on the track.

I know G37's are heavier but I want a RWD, stick, and on that car I'd want to put in some racing seats/harnesses, race wheels, and really shoot for some insane power over the amount of time i'd have it. I'd try to shed as much weight as possible, but i'd still want a/c, stereo/satnav.

Yeah if you want a G35, I would go with the 350z, same engine, same car only the 350z is lighter and overall faster.

Wait never mind, for some reason I read G35 instead of G37. Sorry.

the exhaust will definitely not work from an R32 on an A3.
just compare the rears. the exhaust for an A3 comes out from under the driver's side taillight...whereas the exhaust from an MKV R32 comes out of the center.

agreed, but yet there was several mentions of exhaust being interchangeable above.

I already figured on the exhaust. I like the 350z but with the 370 on the horizon I wouldn't want to make that move, and I think the Infiniti would be more unique. Plus the all the hype about the rumored look of the 370z, I have to say I'm definitively not into those new headlights. Again, I love quattro and DSG is pretty amazing, but i'm craving that third pedal and i'm not really into the hatchback. Dollar for Dollar euro's aren't the cheapest project cars.

The G37 is not that much faster than the G35. And I can tell you right now, my slightly modded 3.2 is faster than G35/350 with bolt ons on a track. I would never waste the money to mod my G35, it's a fun car to drive on and off the track, but I know I can't drive it faster than my 3.2. If you want a track car, just go with an EVO or STI. It's not fun watching cars costing 10k less lapping you. (This is based on pure performance of course)

After the way I got treated at the Infiniti dealership today, i'm going to have to agree.

Well, i'm not 100% yet, but after some thinking... I may just stick with the A3. It has the potential to be a complete beast of a car, besides I love euros and I think it'd be much more unique than the evo...

Im telling you, with the right turbo, 500+whp is achievable

HPA has a turbo kit that has a claimed 450hp and 415 ft-lbs... for 21 grand

Obviously i'd have to build it myself, which i'd be more than willing to do, but that would probably mean fabrication, which I don't really have the necessary tools for.

VF Engineering has said they are looking into doing FI(probably turbo) for the A3. They said it would probably be somewhere in the $7k range.
