    00 1.8T A4 B5 Startup Problem

Hello, this is my first post. I own a 2000 A4 1.8T Quattro tip-tronic. For about a half a year now, my car has been acting strange when I start it up. It happens when the engine is cold or hot. I scan it and no codes come up. The ignition turns all the way but it struggles to turn on. After 2-3 tries it turns on and no codes show up. The car runs excellent, all the tune ups have been done to the car. I have 160K miles all HWY, and just about everything on the engine has been repaired or fixed. I don't know what is happening. Can anyone help me please? Thanks

    Luis

It kinda sounds like the Cam Chain Tensioner or possibly the ICM (ignition control module).

Do a little searching under those two topics and see if your symptons match. I'm sure some other people will chime in. If you could be a little bit more descriptive on the sounds or anything else you notice, it would help. $.02

Thank for the info. Well the sound is just the normal whinning when you try to start a car and it doesn't turn on. Nothing weird or special on the sound. I will research into the two things you said. I appreciate all your help. Thanks again

I do remember when it started to happen, the car gave me a code that said something about main electrical something, I dont remember the code number but I opened the box where the ECU is at and the big fuses in their, I thought was the problem. Went to Kragen, should of known they didnt have them. I just re-pluged them back in and vuala, it started up.

You can rule out the ICM since they were eliminated starting with the '00 ATW engines, which is what you have.

I don't have much knowledge about cars, but I will guess it's the battery.
