    cold start problem

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
my car has always had a high idle from a cold start but recently its been misfiring. i turn the car on, it missed for 30-60 seconds then runs fine. one of the guys i work with mentioned that he worked on someones jetta 1.8t with the same problem and said he replaced the cold start valve. anyone have any other ideas? i'm somewhat mechanically inclined but am not to familiar with our motors.
    any input would be appreciated.

    thanks carlos

    Re: cold start problem

Coolant temp sensor would be my guess.. Sounds like your car is hot mapping on startup and loading fuel causing a misfire.

Check your plugs and pop in a new sensor... see where that gets ya

    Re: cold start problem

When I first got my car, I needed a camshaft position sensor

The way my mechanic explained it was, if you let it go, it'll run like shit after a cold start. So check for that

    Re: cold start problem

I have a similar cold start issue, after a little while now it won't even start first try (might not be related), seems to get worse the warmer it is. second try it fires up fine minus a few misfires in the first 30-60 or so seconds like the original poster has said. Once it's warm, it's fires up again perfectly without any misfires.

i'm pretty sure the camshaft position sensor would throw a code, i'm not receiving any codes what so ever. I may just replace it anyway, but I'm in search of other possible problems before spending any money. For the record, I replaced my coolant temp sensor about 7 months ago (4-5k miles)
