    Michelin pilot sports

Looking for some insight on michelin pilot sport ps2. Currently, I'm still riding on the original ContiSports but when they wear out, I'm thinking about pilot sports. The thing about them I don't understand is; why does the tread flow in opposite directions when mounted on left or right side of the car? I was looking at a friends mini the other day (he has the ps2), and saw that the outer rib tread pattern curved in opposite directions, yet was still the outer side of the tire on both sides of the car which led me to believe he purchased four left (or maybe right) tires, instead of two of each. Can anyone clue me into why the pattern doesn't matter with these, and why curve at all if it doesn't make a difference which direction it goes? Thanks.

I am also in the market for some new tires, I want to go 245/4018 on the stock avus wheels. I'm leaning twoards Contisport 3's or the OEM PS2's. Those Vredstien tires look great, but is there any feedback on them? I'd be interested to know. Thanks.

I heard the Vredestein's are overrated, but that could just be fools hatin'. PS2's came with the car and I really like them. The Bridgestone Potenzas are supposedly very good.

Do you have a decent picture of the Vredstiens on an S4? I like all the rave and the price but the tread is kinda wierd looking. Just curious how it would look on the S. Thanks!

    Re: Michelin pilot sports

The PS2 is, by far, the best tire manufactured today for the street. It is quiet, smooth, grippy as hell and will let you know when it's going to break and most importantly, it's one of the lightest tires on the market.

Winter, I don't think that the PS2' are loud at all. They are one of the quietest tires that I have ever run.

The Bridgestone Potenza RE050 is even more grippy but it come at a price of being super heavy. I'm into lightweight tires. My old Pole Position S03's got incredibly loud when they started to wear. I sure that the RS050's are going to do the same thing.

Bottom lline, I have PS2's on every car that I own and it's pretty much the only tire that I will ever run until something better comes along. It's pricy but worth every single penny. BTW, don't worry about the non-directional tread pattern, it doesn't make one bit of difference.

RA, I never thought it was a bad tire, my car came with them when I bought her, shit they are still on... Great tires... just a bit noisey imo. Eh I'll probibly end up getting em again.

On the spendy side, but at only 22lbs you can hardly beat the PS2's for performance and predictability. I replaced my Conti Sport Contact II's with PS2s on my stock wheels and can't wait to get them on my new wheels (I made the mistake of trying to save a few bucks and went with Bridgestone Potenza RE760s). WinterRunner is the first I've hear to think PS2s are noisy. They are actually one of the quietest tires on the market....8.9 out of 10 at Tire Rack. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....ort+PS2#Survey

my car came with them...very good tire! Very good through corners, and through water. Also, they are pretty light.

Most people skimp on tires, but look at it this way...there are only 4 pieces of rubber connecting your car to the road. Buy the $80 tire or the $270 tire...what could be the difference? Hmmmmm...

I'm going with PS2's fairly soon. I currently have KDW2's on the S and they are amazing for the price; not great in the wet and a bit noisy after 6/32's, but in the dry, they are amazing!

I have the RE050's on the Lex and they are super super grippy in all weather.

THE PS2's ARE COMPLETE CRAP!! The first generation pilot sports were wayy better. The ps2 does has softer rubber but the sidewalls are ridiculously weak! You can even push them in with your hand when off the rim. I had a bad accident that broke my back because the sidewall rolled and tore on the track! They are wayy over rated!!

I have to echo some of the negative sentiments on the PS2's. I had them on my car for about a week and that was all I could take. They handled ok but due to the tread pattern perhaps, they tracked the damn grooves in the freeways we have here in So Cal really badly. I freakin hated that. Since then I've had Dunlop Sport Maxx and now the Conti 2's and love them both. Thinking about trying out the new Yoko S Drives when my Conti's are done - lot's of great reviews on those.

I live in so cal and drive the freeways everyday. Both of my cars have PS2's on them and absolutely no tramlining on the freeways at all. Maybe it's your air pressure or alignment. PS2's arent' known for catching freeway lines at all.

Zach, sory to hear about your mishap but there are many factors that could have led to your accident like incorrect pressure in the tire or something on the track that snagged the tire causing it to tear. Maybe you turned in to quick, who knows. I'm just sayin that maybe the tire isn't to blame.

it's not your fault it happened.... The tire pressures were all checked 2 hours before the accident, they were mounted on the wheels by tirerack, and hired an accident investigator and he confirmed that it was the tire's fault. Hired lawyers to go after michelin and tire rack, but didn't have enough money to persue..... Over $15k in legal fees, not including accident investigator, insurance, etc.... but spoke to a few people who had the same experience and said that it wasn't worth suing michelin....

Sorry to hear that, well the side walls on the Sessentas are so stiff it is difficult to bend them even by sitting on them without the rims, but it comes with a price (weight).

I live in FL and in the large rain downpours we have had recently I have nothing but great things to say about this tire. The So3's I was running before had more dry traction but overall the value and performance of this tire is unmatched. This is my experience, I will have to see how they wear and change. I have 245-35-19 for about half the cost of the PS2's I'll take them every time, especially since the average only 10-12k miles.

That totally sucks. Were they able to determine if it was just a bad tire or was it something in the design of the tire?

How fast were you going when the tire went?

try to search thee article that compared 7-8 top tier tires including the Vreds and the PS2. the Vreds came out in 1st place.

    Re: Michelin pilot sports

I presently have S03 Pole Position's on my S4 but they are somewhat noisy and are tramlining on me - much like my prior experience with them on another car I had. I had Pilot Sport A/S on my last car and thought they were pretty quiet, and no tramlining either. I did notice some flatspotting if they sat for more than a day, especially in the winter. But, they performed great in all weather conditions and held up really well.

I don't track my cars or even drive them past 7/10 in most situations so I doubt the issue that Zach experienced would apply. I will definitely be replacing my RE050's with PilotSports.

they determined it was a bad design... I was going around 45 (it was a large auto-x track) if anything, go with the first generation or the a/s version....

Kind of funny though, when I bought my RS4, I was looking at red, but it had ps2's so i rejected it.... they had to trade with another dealer 11 hours away to get another one, which was daytona grey...

@PUTT, whats your input on the design? do you think they are superior to the Contisort 2/3's and the PS2's? I mean for the money they seem great, I just dont want to regret the purchase. Thanks.

i know a bunch of people that have been very happy with them (including myself). Vreds are a true 235mm tire compared to most of the tires in the market which means you will have a slightly better contact patch. they are very very good in dry and wet. it is very hard to break these loose no matter how hard you try on an Audi. i've had them in the summer months from last year and i plan on getting them once again.

HOw do they compare the the PS2's wieghtwise? I know it's hard to beat the PS2's in that catagory, but if they are only marginally heavier (a couple pounds) than I think it would still be worth it at 150$ a pop compared to 250ish for the PS2's. And if they are lighter, I may just forget about the PS2's. Thanks!

i would not be too worried about weight. these are tires. they would be within the 22-27 pound range. like i mentioned, Vreds are true 235mm which means there is more tire than most of the tires of the same size.

feel free to call Sander Performance. they have all the info regarding the tires. they might even have a sale since Waterfest is next week.
