does piping affect the exhaust note??

i was wondering if the piping included with a full catback system affects the exhaust note. because im looking for an exhaust that sounds like an autotech exhaust system. but they only make systems for vw's. i noticed they used dynomax super turbo mufflers. im hoping i can just get one of those and itll sounds pretty close.

edit for a vr6 sound clip

Ive wondered this myself... Most people are like "whoa 3" exhaust? That must sound nasty!" but im not sure if the sizing matters

Yes the quality of the piping matters. Thicker the pipe, the quieter the exhaust and all.

Thickness should affect volume, but the shape of the pipe affects what kind of sound it makes. The exhaust is basically a large bugle, after all.

Re: does piping affect the exhaust note??

most definitely does. my 2.25" borla has more of a "straight" note rather than a burble to it, i've heard the larger 2.5" and 3" systems and they seem to have more of a burble to it... the 3" in fact sounds more like a diesel in my opinion on the ko3

despite their past problems with tuning, i give it up to EIP for having an awesome sounding exhaust. my friends 03 gti with 2.5" EIP exhaust sounds perfect (quiet with a little burble)
