Who knew particle board could fly...

So i was coming home from work yesterday getting on the interstate. I was probably 4 or 5 car lengths behind a black hummer. There was a 3 x 4 piece of particle board in the road ahead of the hummer, unbeknown to me. The hummer straddled it, and as he passed over it, the wind underneath blew the wood 4 or 5 feet in the air. it was a large piece of wood, so swerving wouldn't have helped (plus there were cars all around). the wood hit my front end slapped my hood, and went flying over my car, landing way behind me. busted the center out of my grill, tore off the chrome trim, took paint off the bumper, many dents in the hood, lots of missing paint.

And yes all the road rashy chipping is from the wood, apparently it was splintered enough to poke little holes like that... Off to the body shop we go...

On a side note, prepping for the coilover install before i take her in for the bodywork

particle board doesn't really splinter, so it may not have caused the rock chips. however, since it was laying on the freeway with people driving over it, it very well may have had a ton of rocks embedded into it that did it. sucks nonetheless. you may be able to get some restitution from the city because they're the ones that pay to keep they highways clean and whatnot. Just a thought. Good luck.

    Ouch..

My dad was driving his 944 turbo when the nose pannel (piece between the bumper and the hood) unhinged itself and flew off, he did this as he was passing traffic at a very high speed and it flew about 50 ft in the air and landed 7 cars back between traffic and crumpled...

wow, good thing it didn't land on your windshield
maybe less expensive to replace cracked glass but it could've smashed you in the face or made you lose control
