Are you sure you are getting a spark pull out a plug and pack put the plug init and turn over the engine if the plug fires you have power if not look at battery connections and plug power. Try reseting your ECU as you may have tripped something.

Re: Replaced spark plugs... engine turns but not start?

I checked for spark.. I got no spark. I touch the plug to the ground wire and had my GF start I saw no spark. I don't know if it matters but I did go from copper plugs to iridium plugs
how do you reset an ECU?

if you're APR chipped, use the fault code erase, otherwise just disconnect the hot side of the battery for about 3 mins, take the whole terminal assembly off the post, not just the first wire. if you have original audi symphony sound system, youll need the key code again for it, if its audi symphony II, the code will not need to be re-entered after you connect the battery again.

are you sure you're filling the fuel bar with an initial gas charge? (when you turn the key from off to acc or on is when it charges the fuel bar)

I'm not sure what you mean. I have fuel, I can see it on the plugs. I got it disconnected right now, will try to strat in a few mins... I also went back to the old coil packs and plugs. I have 4 spares. will let you know what happens

If you are not getting a spark you may want to check the coilpacks and the wiring harness.

Re: Replaced spark plugs... engine turns but not start?

might want to scan it for codes if possible. i just had a problem with my spark, i also got no spark. ended up being a wire that runs from the ECM relay (219) to the coil pack connectors. it had 130,000 ohms of resistance, only supposed to have 1.5 max.

there are a lot of potential problems you can have though, ECU not recognizing the plugs, coil packs not getting power (my problem), crankshaft sensor, etc etc.

really need to scan it for codes.

Re: Replaced spark plugs... engine turns but not start?

OK, Thanks all for your help. The problem turned out to be a blown Engine Management Fuse. There are 2 for our cars. 20amp and a 15amp. The 20 was blown because of the iridium plugs + Hitachi coil packs. I ran the Hitachi with coppers and platinums and its fine, Ran iridium with OEM packs and its fine. ridium plugs + Hitachi coil packs = blown 20amp Engine Management Fuse.

Beware of this combo. I used up my sunroof and another 20amp fuse to test.. have to get some platinum plugs and a couple 20amp fuses tomorrow.

Hitachi's, those are the B5's packs right? The bolt-on ones that we can "upgrade" to? BTW, nice to see another Bay Area member!

Re: Replaced spark plugs... engine turns but not start?

its an 03... you're right, there are more than 2.. i was replacing the fuses this morning and I saw 2 20amp and 1 15amp.. I didn't look for them so I'm sure i have 4 like your car since they are the same :p

anywho, I replaced the fuses, put the new platinum NGK plugs and all is good. glad it was simple and didn't cost me a tow to the repair shop :)
