Is it possible to be boosting less or more than what your gauge is showing?

yeah of course, sometimes the gauge doesn't read right anymore. that's why so many people were sending back the old style AWE gauges. the new ones are the shiznit but the old ones wore out over time (short time). do you have access to VAG com?

I'll vag it...what code is it? 115, 118? But with a proper working gauge is it possible to have a wrong reading?

    Yes of course...
You could have a boost leak which is going to show you less or another issue causing it to overboost..bad n75 correct?

You want to lock Block 115: Spec Boost vs Actual Boost vs RPM.

The S4 Wiki is your friend:

    Uhhh... What?

Boost leaks and bad N75s are two problems, not one.

This individual is simply trying to determine the accuracy of his outboard boost gauge. As others have pointed out, he can best do this by logging Block 115 with VAG-COM/VCDS.

    I'm crazy.

According to me there was something along those lines that could cause a gauge to show you boosting way high. So I just thought I'd mention.
    My apologies..

Re: Is it possible? (boost question)

If the gauge is showing you 20psi and the car is actually running healthy at say -- 9psi -- then your gauge is broken.

Re: Is it possible? (boost question)

Thanks for the replys...I should have explained more...I don't have a problem with the car or the boost. It holds at 23psi and tappers to about 21psi. I just didn't want to actually have my mbc set too high if my gauge is saying 23psi but I'm actually boosting more than that or less.

Re: Is it possible? (boost question)

Then the only way to know for certain is to log block 115. First set your MBC to where you think it should be ... Note what your gauge says. Then log.

Compare the logs versus the gauge.

Re: Is it possible? (boost question)

Its very possible, when I vag my car I'm peaking at 23psi and tapering to 21psi. My gauge reads 24-25psi and tapers down to 23psi. Its not that big of a deal that it reads a few pounds to high because it always pulling the same amount under full boost. If your gauge is all over the place then you most likely have a problem. Basically just do what Adam said and you should be fine.
