    whats the best way...

before anyone starts to chew me up for this ive searched for the past like hour.

I have a stock 2000 A4 1.8TQ Tip, I have a boost guage and so i know im running around 7-8psi. Ive never owned a turbo car and so just share with me how i could get my car to 12psi. I know people are stupid and go with a MBC and turn it way up and get greedy and blow their motors. Im not planning on blowing my motor, thats why i said about 12psi.

If i just upgraded my DV to a 007? would that increase boost at all? or just help hold the boost that i have?

and i know GIAC makes a tip chip but i thought that was only to help with the smooth shifting and not with adding boost but i could be wrong on that too.

and also about my N75, doesnt that "create" the boost and is the automatic boost controller?

so what should i add to get that type of psi? and im not planning on going BT.

IF this has been answered in a post please show me the link, im just trying to learn before i throw money at it and waste my time and maybe ruin something.

    TIA

    Re: whats the best way...

Look in the classifieds here, PassatWorld, VW Vortex, and Ebay and buy a used chip for $300 or so. That is the safest way to go - that will bring you up to 15+ PSI.

You can have luck with an MBC+Diode to raise your boost up to about 10 or so, but it's not likely that you will get much more than that safely without a chip.

If you can't find a used one, you can buy a new one for $400-$500 from any number of vendors.

You can not go wrong with a chip. If you've got the cash, just do it.

    Re: whats the best way...

This has been answered many times, but it is ok man. I believe your car has a map sensor, so you could do the diode method to increase boost. I think Maxspeed is the one to ask on the procedure for that. Or you could purchase an aftermarket chip. Because you have a tip does not mean there is no chip that can yield you 30+hp. There is even a chip(GIAC) that smoothes the transmission. The n75h does not add any boost as does not the forge dv. The forge is what would be needed when you up your boost as the stock ones are rubber and will rip in no time. But you could also use a 710n (I have one laying around if you want it). The n75h is used by people whom have surges in thier boost. It adds maybe 1-2 psi to even out the surge.

With the diode method, you should ask Maxspeed and I would assume you could push maybe 15 psi max safetly. Or with the GIAC chip or another you should boost ~20psi (give or take).

Like ^^ said, nothing really other than tuning is the best way to bring that boost up. Everyone is getting rid of their ECU's now a day and one can easily be found. If you want power, the best way to start is to get a Testpipe, Chip, and upgrade your DV.

awesome thanks guys, what exactly is a diode? is it like the flashing of the ecu? yeah ill totally take the 710 off your hands. every little bit helps and without spending too much money is great too! college is just too damn expensive these days...

    Re: whats the best way...

ok i did find a link about the diode, its pretty much an electornic thing i get off ebay and solder into my map between the black and blue/grey wires. and then i use a ebc to boost where i want it. again this search said 17psi but im just afraid that is too much on a stock car.

with a uses GIAC tip chip, would i have to match up numbers off my ecu to make sure it would work? cause i did read that some people put them in and the car wont like accept it cause of an immobalizer? The searches are good for information but dont always answer my direct question.

sorry for sounding like an idiot :/

The giac tip chip runs from 1997-1999.5 and from 1999.5-2001
    here's a link to awe-tuning:

I have the GIAC-X ecu chip and have been running 21psi for over a year with no problems. Getting a chip is the safest way to increase the PSI on our motors. Just get the supporting mods like upgraded diverter valve, replace all the vacum hoses, and a test pipe/ exhaust would also help.

    Re: whats the best way...

The answers are in the server board somewhere as many many topics have been answered. One of the reasons I don't ask too many questions is the search button pulls interesting threads.

But if you pulled the search and it said that 17psi is attainable and was able to run safetly, then I would say go for it. I assumed 15psi myself. There is an individual on Audiforum.com whom had I think 18psi on his stock turbo off the diode method (but he has the 180hp TT). Here is a DIY he constructed for the diode method (but I would consult someone about how the process for the B5 A4 goes as applications will vary). I would ask Maxspeed (AZ member) about it. Maxspeed also sells diodes.

As for the chip compatability, there are chips designated for certain years. This is taken off of AWE for chip compatability:

The only chips I know that is compatable is the CH chip that can work in the M box (and no, the M can not work in the CH).

There is also a chip for tip that smoothes transmissions for $350. And if you want the 710n, just pay for the shipping and it is yours. Though you will def want to upgrade later when you have free cash.

    Re: whats the best way...

^^that is a different chip used only on tip applications for smoother shifts and yeilds no extra hp. That is the other chip I posted about for $350.

The compatability chart for the extra hp (boost) is on my last post and that chip is $500. If you are set on going with GIAC, then here is a list of thier distributors.

I can give you advice that anyone else on here would when it comes to obtaining upgrades. First figure what your ultimate goal is. You said you don't want to do anything past chipping, but too many people say that and end up going BT. If you are plan on going BT then choose a tune you would want to upgrade with. For example, I have a CTapp flash because I plan on going BAT later on and will upgrade with them. But if all you want is to chip/flash your ECU and call it a day, then just find the closest dealer. Does not have to be GIAC (though are supposed to be the best for the B5 minus the 01). And Revo sucks for the B5 unless a BT file (so I read).

    Re: whats the best way...

I bought the GIAC-X chip from this board and yes it is different from the tip chip. You wouldn't have a GIAC-X chip since your car is a 2000 model. It was only made for 2001 and up. There are a lot of local shops that you can get a chip at, or you can order them of many cites online. You can find lot of these cites in (All B5 A4-related FAQ) at the top of the B5 forum. Also there are many different brands of chips out there from GIAC, MTM, APR, Revo, etc...

I'm right outside of the city in oak park. Of topic, you should check out euroteknik and illinoiseuro.com two local euro forums. You will find lots of info on local shops and local help with your Audi.

    Re: whats the best way...

Keep in mind the TIP-Chip and the regular ol' chip are two different things. The TIP-Chip will not increase your power, it is a transmission control unit. It will change the way the transmission shifts. You don't need to worry about that right now. You want the regular old "CHIP" - this is what is going to increase your power output. Forget the TIP chip for now.

yeah thats what i thought about the tip chip. exactly i dont car about how smooth it is at this point, and probably never but i just want more HP so the damn car will move a bit. I didnt buy this car for a speedster but a heavy car and 150hp just dont do too well. haha

    Re: whats the best way...

one more question and what would my stock 1/4 mile time be and then with the GIAC chip or APR chip (those are the two im looking at) that will bump my hp from 150 to about 214 is what they claim. i know the 1/4 mile times depends on the driver but you know what i mean.

just wondering how the more HP translates to my time...
