    Just finished my stereo upgrade

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Went with...

Infinity 50.9cs front components (custom adapters)
Infinity 60.7 Rear speakers (crutchfield adapters)(speaker baffles)
    Alpine MRP300 4 channel amp
Infinity Basslink 10 inch all in one sub
4 gauge main wiring with fused splitter into 8 gauge wire for amps.

Sounds great for alittle over $500 for the complete setup.

I made the brackets for the components using the speaker grills that came with the speakers. I dremeled out and ground down a large portion of the door but in the end very clean solid speaker mounts for free! I had the bose system in my previous car and its nice to upgrade the nonbose to something better then the bose. (and this is much better) I complemented going with better components but for the type of music I listen to (rock) this sounds great.

Im using a kenwood head unit untill I pull the trigger on a Pioneer F700BT and go for my double din conversion. Right now the pioneer units have thousands of bugs, just head over to avic411.com and have a read. I was considering the kenwood 8120 but the UI just hurts my eyes.

How do you like the Basslink? I've heard mixed reviews.

It's a good start. Just wait, it'll become an addiction.

Can you post pictures of how your front doors look,

i was always thinking of 5.1/4 component upgrade without overdoing a door panel

    thanks in advance,

    Yev

basslink sounds good for what I need it for. I was hoping the kappas a lone would be enough to satisfy my needs but they are extremely thin sounding without a sub and just arn't nice to listen to alone. I didn't want to add any weight to the car and the basslink is very lightweight (around 20 lbs speaker/amp/enclosure) This was one of the reasons going with it rather than one 10 in box with external amp. I found it locally used and managed to snag it for $150 with rca's, wiring, and fused distribution block. I have it right behind the drivers seat and wired so i can easily move it to the trunk If I need to on the fly. It fills the sound out and its nice and balanced. If I listened to rap music I might be dissapointed but I can hear my kick drum nice and tight in my back. To get the mix balanced I ended up turning the basslink gain all the way up and the 4 channel amp gain to about 25%. This isn't a problem because with the head unit up al the way the speakers are loud loud loud and crystal clear with no distortion whatsoever. Funny thing about the basslink is I am happier with it at higher volumes and don't hear it as much in the mix on lower volumes. I thought this would have been the opposite. Im definitely happy for $500 bucks I don't see any better way. I now want to hear a pair of $800 focal components bc to me these $250 speakers sound great, I can't imagine how good high end focals are.

This also finally solved my 3 inch exhaust drone problem

Yevmeister, fitting the 5 1/4's wasn't an easy task. Took me a few hours to get it perfect and mount the crossovers getting the door to fit snug. I will try to get some pictures. I basically dremeled down a lot of the door and used long screws with nylon bushings to make sure the speakers had enough clearance. The drivers side door took me a few hours but once I got it perfect the passanger only took maybe 20 minutes to do. I also was at a shop with air tools and tons of cutters and such handy.

i have been doing custom fiberglass door panels before, with my current car i don't want to get into another lengthy project

i used to work in one of the shops in the area so the tools are not the issue, it's just i am very visual person and want to see what your door panel looks like with those components, so perhaps i will attempt something similar
