Taking my car in for warantee items please advise

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Here are the issues,

    1) The brakes squeek retardedly at low speeds, if I go through a drive through the cashier literally cringes
    2) Getting a warning saying my trunk is open every time I turn on the car even though the trunk is securly closed
    3) Grinding when downshifting into third gear from high speeds slowing

Now I want to make sure this is all covered under warantee and want to know what you guys think should be done about these problems to fix them.

I don't want to get facked around by the stealership.

    Any input would be appreciated.

Re: Taking my car in for warantee items please advise

    1) don't think the dealer will do anything other than make you pay to replace your brake pads
    2) dealer should def. cover that
    3) thats a tough cookie, but i bet that they will say that they can't replicate the problem or something...and if they do replicate it, they probably won't do anything about it

Describe the 3rd gear problem more specifically. If you are going significantly fast (70+) and downshift without rev matching in neutral to bring the synchros to speed, you're going to grind if you push it into the shift gate too fast.

agree with the above. dealer said they will only replace brakes if they find them to be unusually worn for the time you've had the car... which means never.

Ok driving on the highway for example, highway speeds, coming to a stop and downshifting while breaking, 6-5-grind-3-2-1 I'm usually travelling about 40mph or so when it happens, the grind only lasts a second.

sounds like a linkage issue. Should be covered.

So you're going from 5 to 3? If so all I can suggest is rev matching in neutral. If you just overlooked 4th gear in writing this, I would take it into the dealer. But they probably won't be able to replicate the problem.

Re: Taking my car in for warantee items please advise

Yeah, could be a synchro issue as well. Yeah, make sure to rev-match when going to from 5-3. You don't have to double clutch to do it. Just make sure your give the gas a good tap while the clutch is depressed. It take some time to figure out, but you can do it.

So it would go like this.

    Your in 5.
    Clutch
Give the car some gas (depending on how fast you're going, it either a lot or just a tap)
When the RPM's start to get to where you think the should be in 3rd, release the clutch
    There you go.

    You just rev matched! Congrats!

So for the transmission they are taking it out and replacing some linkage under warantee

the breaks they said I need new pads, surprise, I have 5.5mm and 5 mm left on them, I opted to go with what they call deglazing the brakes, hopefully this will help.

Re: Taking my car in for warantee items please advise

I was having the same grinding issue going from 5-3 after driving my car hard for a probably 10 minute span and it went away after a few days. After posting on this board, people told me not to go 5-3 and I have been shifting 5-4-3 ever since. However a few weeks ago I took a spin through some back roads driving hard for about 15-20 minutes or so and was shifting all throughout the gears and never skipping a gear. I was trying to rev match as much as possible but I'm not too comfortable doing this at higher speeds yet so some of my shifts were jumping up 2-3k rpms. After my little romp, I was grinding 3rd for the next couple of days. I did some rev matching and I don't think it happened doing that. If I downshifted normally (not rev matching) it would happen every couple of shifts. However, if I was in 4th, pushed the clutch in, went to neutral, released the clutch, and the pushed the clutch in and tried to go to 3rd it would grind everytime. Like I said, this problem went away after a few days.

Does anyone know what this might have been? My assumption is that the hard driving was heating up my gearbox and maybe warping the synchros? And then after a few days they reseat themselves? I don't really know much about transmissions so I might be completely wrong...

Re: Taking my car in for warantee items please advise

I think when you don't rev match, its really hard on the transmission. That may mess up the linkage. I think synchros are there so you don't have to double clutch to down shift. That jerk forward when you go from 4 to 3 isn't good. Rev matching takes care of that. When you rev match you can go from 6 at 80 mph to 3 at 80 mph with no forward lurch at all. You have to practice doing it a lower speeds first. Eventually you'll have a feel for how much gas you'll have to give to get the RPM's up to where they need to be for the gear you want to go into.

what does deglaze the breaks mean?? was it free? and more importantly.. did it work??? because my breaks are really starting to piss me off.,. it sucks having to feel embarrased when you pull up in a squeeking car

FWIW my brakes always squeaked like crazy if it was cold and from what I gathered it was fairly common

Never had the pre-3rd gear grind but then again I would go 5or6 to 4th, to 2nd ;) I would rev match though
