    Temp Gauge Not Working

So my car (02 1.8t) has been having an issue with the temp guage. For a while it would work intermitantly and for the last few months is hasn't been working at all. I just replaced the coolant flange a couple of days ago and I noticed that the temp sensor has been replaced with the green top style. Is it likely that the updated sensor has become faulty or is something else working improperly?
    Thanks

Mine's an 02' also, I changed the top sensor and it still happened then I did the thermostat and the issue went away! Most likely its the thermostat if you have a bit of miles on your car. I had 64,000 miles when mine happened.

Well, I replaced the green sensor and that seemed to fix the problem and cost under $30 in parts.

The green sensor in the back of the head? The problem went away with a new sensor? Does the car drive better (bet it does)? That sensor in the back of the head is notorious for taking a shit.
