Blinking Check Engine Light for about 30 sec.

I recently installed the Podi Gauge and now able to monitor my boost. Over the weekend I was getting onto the Highway and decided to do some spirited driving. I got onto the on-ramp and in 3rd gear gave it full throttle. The gauge read 11 psi until I shifted to 4th. I didn't red line or anything, but all the sudden after I shifted the check engine light started to blink so I let off the gas a bit and drove normal. 30 sec. to a minute later the light went away. Is this something to be alarmed about?

The blinking CEL meens you have a misfire in one of your cylinders. It could range from a bad spark plug, to coilpacks, injector, or even a boost leak.
What are your mods? Do you know how to pressure test / have access to a VAG-tool?

Re: Blinking Check Engine Light for about 30 sec.

Thanks for the fast reply. The car is completely stock and I don't have access to a VAG or have the proper equipment to do a pressure test. I'll look into getting the car scanned sometime this week.

In regards to boost leak. This is my first turbo car and had some question in-regards to boost. I've noticed that in all gears that the car normally runs on vacuum (in.Hg) on the gauge. It rarely goes above 1-3 PSI unless the car is really driven hard. Is this normal? I can only get it to 10 PSI in the higher rpm's.

^^ Boost only builds under load, so what you're describing sounds about right.

Thought a blinking CEL meant damage is being done to your Catalytic Converter, no?

I would double check your boost gauge set up. Sounds like you have a leak somewhere in it.

Foster City is in between San Jose and San Francisco. Next to San Mateo.
