S4 vs A4 2.0t Just Opinions

Hey Audizine!

Been an audi nut for years. Had a couple in the past. My last was a 2004 b6 S4 and got out of it for a number of reasons at the time, but looking to get back into the the b7!

My S4 with I/DP/E/chip was putting 300whp and 300Wtq to the wheels on a mustang dyno. I loved the car but always wanted a bit more go power!

In your opinoins do you think that the 2.0T with a k04 or AWE BT will get the job done for me? I never got into the 1.8t because it was always a bit weaker than the s4 but this new motor seems to be the Cats meow with higher boost!

Just looking to see your feed back as I try and make this decision.

This car is going to be a 6mt Avant and will be a semi daily driver.

AWE BT Kit. Go get a loaded A4, get the AWE BT Kit, and then you'll have a car that can put down 300+ hp/300+ tq to the ground and still get 30 MPG on the highway! And it will still be less money than an S4. However...you have to consider your Audi engine warranty is gone.

If it's speed you're after, a 2.0T with a BT will be faster. However the S4 is more driveable day to day. It may eat gas but there is more torque down low and throttle response is instant. The 2.0T has minimal turbo lag, but add a BT and lag will increase.

Turbo motors are great, but occationally the weak 'off boost' power and lag are annoying. Also consider the S4 upgrades in looks, brakes, seats, resale value, intact warranty, ect.

You've had a B6 S4. Stepping into a B7 S4 will be very similar. A modded B7 A4 would be a different experience, with both pros and cons.

I was for sure leaning towards the S4 untill i heard about the AWE BT kit.

Two different worlds. If your looking for power right off the bat plus a car that has it all I would say go with an S4. If your interesting in tuning and making HP i would say go with the 2.0T. I can say I had a B7 A4 2.0T and I modded the car but then I go bored. I wanted the S4 so I traded the A4 in for the B7 S4. Love every minute of it.

Buy an S4, and then Turbo it...Simple as that...But that's just me...

If this will be a daily driver, then I would get the S4 without a doubt. Not only will the A4 not have a warranty, but the S4 seats are wayyyyyyy better than the A4 seats.

I have 275 WHP already and im still tweaking it to get more. I put down as much HP as a stock s4 and much more torque (318 wtq). I say get the 2.0 and BT it! You will be much happier with the 35mpg on the highway.

Yeah but if you can afford to mod your car to this degree roughly $11K I'm sure buying the seats are not an issue, and warranty issues, unless you blow the engine aren't "horrible". My theory is if you modded it knowing the risks, deal with them or don't mod your car.

Get the s4 and do yourself a favor and dump the FJ! I had one for about a year and it was by far the biggest POS i have ever owned.

Money. You could spend a little less and get a nice 2.0T and mod it to get to S4 or more level of performance, or pay more for an S4 and pay more for a SC kit (that may be coming out in the near future, but who knows).
Nutshell: planning to mod? Get the 2.0T. Stay close to stock? S4 all the way, just be mind full of the gas consumption. I easily spend close to $500 a month on gas, which is an A4 payment

Modding sometimes is not always fun. there are times were problems do come up, and you then pay more money. I feel this is one of the biggest reasons why I got rid of my 2.0T and got an S4. The thought about Audi taking away my warrenty over something stupid always made me so mad, but that is life.

That goes without saying.. B5 S4 if you're modding and it will kill pretty much anything in the "4" family. Maintenance and upkeep is a whole other factor that is part of another argument, but as the OP pointed out he is looking into a B7.
