    Part number of the speedometer

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
My car is a 01 A4. The info display of my speedometer is fading. I am thinking of getting one in eBay in order to replace it. However, the part number of my speedometer is 8D0 920 980 Q and the one listed in eBay is 8D0 920 980 QX. What's the different between them? Will it fit into my car? Thanks

Re: Part number of the speedometer

I think the X just represents it being a replacement part. You should be ok. You should call an Audi dealership tommorow and give them your Vin number to pull from the computer your cluster part number. More than likely, he will tell you it is 8D0 920 980 Q. Then tell you the replacement part order number is 8D0 920 980 QX.

As for swapping it, I believe some Vag Com procedures must be taken after install. But is basically plug and play. And I don't think the odometer would change on the new (used) cluster, so you would need to keep track of your miles.

But the listing in eBay is an used part. It's not a brand new item.

The X should still only represent it being a replacement part. He maybe listed that because he is selling it to someone whom needs a replacement. Wait till tommorow and call the dealership. You can even tell them you wanted to get a replacement and give them the part number with the X on it. More than likely they will tell you what I just did.

Another question is that does it need to be reprogrammed after I change the speedometer? Or is it just plug & play?

The "X" denotes it as an exchange part.

There's a surcharge on clusters from Audi, if buying outright, quite pricey.
The ebay item has been replaced by Audi at some point.
The factory fit clusters seldom have an "X" as a suffix.

That means it's not a good idea to buy it?

just means its been rebuilt. it was a core at some point in time and has been rebuilt. i would bet $$ it was warrantied at a dealer for a fading screen. it was then sold again and installed in someones car.
    contact via email please.

Hmmm. The fading screen really kills me. It keeps fading as the car gets hotter. Really wanna get a replacement. Can this be done by DIY or I need a professional to change it?

I'd say it's a good idea to buy it.
It's been refurbished at some time, so may be a good buy.
I'd contact the vendor, and ask some questions.

Re: Part number of the speedometer

The basic functions, just VAG-COM will do.

As for mileage, no. It's well over the value of changing it to match yours.

Hmmm. That means it's not just plug & play? What do I need to do if I replace it? Thanks. (p.s. I don't have much knowledge about cars. )
