Make that Spark Plugs too. I plan to go 1+ in the near future if that makes a difference.

Talk about digging up and continuing to beat the long dead horse.

The search function is free, and it's your friend!

Not to dispute MikTip, because his contributions to the forums/communities are many, and he knows a hell of a lot... but I respectfully disagree (except for the filters... go large OEM).

    Down to brass tacks here...

Check this thread for a good introduction on what kind of oil to run and why:

    Clicky click

Then, read this thread I posted with data sheets on technical info on the best oils and make the decision for yourself:

    Clicky click

After that, read this write up at AudiGeeks for the straight dope on spark plugs:

    Clicky click

That will help further your edification.

I know, I know. I usually do, but tonight I'm feeling super lazy, which you will see by my following question. I really don't want to read all those separate threads on oil, filters, and plugs, could you just tell me which is the best for all three categories? Thanks!

    Ugh... weak.

-- ELF Excellium LDX or DiD / Total Quartz Energy9000

    -- OEM large filter

-- NGK BKR6E or if you're chipped NGK BKR7E and be sure to change these (because they're copper) every oil change.

I just don't understand how you could take the time to post, then read replies and post again saying you're too lazy. Talk about doing things twice... what a roundabout process.

I'd really like to do this too, but AoA says for the 80k sludge warranty I should show the purchase of oil and filter at the time of each change, otherwise it won't be easy to prove that the change was done at the correct time/mileage. But even individually, how would they be sure I still changed it on time?

What complicates this is that I can't find any of the preferred/approved oils locally.

Wow, I couldn't find a dealer locater online... you must be in the boonies! j/k

Try pm'ing Shawn (A4ringedONE8T) and see if he'll ship you some from his shop at a good rate, otherwise, worldimpex is a great source with good prices.

    Hope that helps!

Re: Best Oil and Oil Filter?

Well, I should've said "non-dealer" source. Especially my local dealer who not only sells every part at full list price, but they're idiots (take my word for this). Next closest dealer is ~40 miles away. World Impex is good, and I also usually buy from germanautoparts.com .

thats what i was thinking too... you could search and instantly have your answer or you could take the time to write a post, post it, wait for replies, then rebuttle them

for your average person, OEM stuff is fine.. mobil 1 0 40w even though its not technically a full syn anymore... also if u are hard up for a filter, get the mobil 1 M-301 filter from autozone or wherever, its the same size as OEM

I buy Mobil 1, because its readily available on local store shelves! ELF is not...

Total Quartz is $11 a bottle....

You change your sparkplugs with every oil change?

    Own a torque wrench?

Run those plugs too many times in & out of aluminum heads "untorqued", and you run a much greater risk of stripping the sparkplug threads.

I do have a torque wrench, actually. I put it down to its lowest setting of 20 lb-ft. If it's not on hand I just go 1/4 turn past snug.

ELF/Total is rather easy for me to find now that I know where to get it. It just took some doing (through two oil changes of OEM Castrol garbage).

Tactic12, I plan to go one plus relatively soon, hopefully before my next oil change. Would you suggest I get the BKR7E's now, or wait until my next oil change after i get chipped?

And to retort to all the comments about searching and what not. I've already apologized for not doing it, what more do you want from me? lol. I feel i contribute enough to the forums to repost every once in a blue moon.
