What are people dropping into their B6's when the time comes to upgrade the fuel pump?

I was looking at the Bosch 044 Motorsport pump:

I was thinking more in terms of reliability than anything else. I think I may have had another VDO pump go bad on me and was thinking I'd try something else if need be.

I am installing my 044 pump next week to see if the hesitation I am getting at higher boost is a fueling issue or not.

Do you run your gas tank to "E" before fill-up?

The fuel pump uses the gasoline in your tank for cooling.

Run the tank on "E" too often, will cause problems for the plastic pumps....

The fuel pumps in our cars will gradually lose efficiency over the years, as they wear, and their pressure output will slowly drop...

If your FP is a few years old, a new one will restore the systems efficiency, back to where its suppose to be.

Also change your fuel filter before installing a new pump!!! It traps all the trash the fuel pump gives off.

The 044 pump looks quite different from the OE pump....

Did we forget to mention some "oh by the way..." for installing the 044 pump?

    Good posts to read-

What about the electrical connectors, and the top outlet hose?

Its 90 degree's on the OEM and straight on the 044...

Still not telling us all the mods required to make the 044 run on a B6

Looks like 034 has "adapted" the 044 into the OEM basket, to remove all the DIY guesswork and headaches.

    Thanks outsider6661!

    Re: upgraded fuel pumps?

You don't need to modify the basket to make it work.

There is a different Bosch pump that drops right into the basket. I'll have to go dig up the part number for you.

    Re: upgraded fuel pumps?

the only thing you have to do with the pump from 034 motorsport is snip the old electric connetions from the old fuel pump and crimp on the new ones that come with the 034fuel pump and drop it in to the tank with the basket it comes with. and last just connect the new hose that comes with the fuel pump.

Note that the new hose that came with the fuel pump disintegrated on me after about 4-5 months. Fuel pump made lots of noise and car barely revved to 3K rpms. After the hose was replaced the problem was solved.

A lil note to everyone the yellow wire is ground and the black in the power. Ask me how i know. Anyone know where to get the tool to remove the basket. I have to remove my pump again because it seems like the guy that installed mine left a harness unplugged at the bottom of the pump and my car is enternally on "empty".

There's no real "need" to change the pump, unless is shows signs of failure, or fails.

The pump is an electric motor. It wears over time.

The only real test is to check the pumps pressure output. Too low pressure, change it.

    Re: upgraded fuel pumps?

people are getting the 044 to work in their cars? I tried a while back and no way will it fit. I did however end up using another Bosch high flow pump that is similar to the 044 but without the nut like thing on the end. I worked with scott at USRT and 034 to get the right fuel pump listed for our cars
