    Service light code Index?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I tried to search and tried the FAQ's but couldnt find a break down of the servie light codes.

My 2.8 is flashing "1n 1" at me and I would like to know what it is trying to tell me seeing as I just bought the car.

    Thanks!

    Re: Service light code Index?

Service Interval 1 if "IN 1" is displaying on the Odometer after startup, and for a few miles, then it goes away (back on next startup). Could need an oil change, or the shop did not reset it at the last change, or the previous owner DIY'd the oil and did not have the ability to reset.

also if you don't have a VAG-COM tool you can go to the following DIY article to reset it yourself...assuming that the service actually was done.

    Re: Service light code Index?

Thanks! The car did falsh Oil at me below the odo. for a week after I got the car and the previous owner told me that he had the oil changed and didnt reset the service interval. Then the "1n 1" started. I did check the oil multiple times but it always is perfect and clean.

    Re: Service light code Index?

I have to even have a good laugh today. The "In 1" message just went on for my 1.8T. Must be something in the air. Out with the VAG for me tonight to clear it, as the oil was done only a few thousand km ago (don't drive the car that much, so likely was date activated).

    Re: Service light code Index?

In1 and In2 are service intervals programmed into the cluster.
you can reset them on some cars without a vagcom.
but i believe yours requires a vagcom to reset it.

the later model say Inspection and you can reset these easily.

    Re: Service light code Index?

VAG-COM method is the only way for my Euro '96...and man what a PITA, as the Channels do not line up the same as for my '98 in the US. Also the VAG-COM could not fix the values using the SRI software tool; I needed to enter the new values in each Channel manually. Also came across such oddities as Instrument Channel 02 should be one to reset, but does not really appear on mine; it is simply listed as "Not Available". In anycase was able to sort out the codes and made the following changes/improvements to the SRI settings, and thankfully the "In 1" has gone away too.

    Channel Before After

Channel 00 = Factory Reset = blank blank
    Channel 01 = ?? 15 15
Channel 02 = Service Status = Not Available Not Available
    Channel 03 = Consumption Correction = 100 100
    Channel 04 = Language = 1 German 2 English
    Channel 05 = Lowest km x1000 = 5 10
    Channel 06 = Highest km x1000 = 5 15
    Channel 07 = Lowest Days x10 = 1 36
    Channel 08 = Highest Days x10 = 2 72
    Channel 09 = Kilometers on the clock x10 = 12640 no change
Channel 10 and above are all Not Available

BTW, does anyone know what Channel 01 is for the Euro models, or have a clue why Channel 02 is Not Available? Also wonder why my car in France had the cluster coded for Germany...will miss the "BREMS LICHT" signal each time I switch it on.

    Thanks,

    Steve
