Does quattro dictate a tire rotation pattern

I have a B7 A4 Avant SE, brand new. My tires are Pirelli P6 four seasons tires. I've seen many posts deriding these tires, and, my first impression is that they are not that great. However, being cheap, I'd like them to last as long as possible.

The tires are asymmetric in that the central rib is a bit offset to the inside. However, there is no pronounced directional pattern that I can see. The owner's manual still recommends only the front-back rotation, which really kind of eliminates the possibility of including the spare in the rotation. Is there a danger to the drivetrain from swapping these tires side-side or is it simply an issue if you have directional tires such as GY Aquatred, Toyo T1-R, etc?

Still confused as to Audi's recommendations. We haven't yet found a compelling reason not to "criss cross" non directional tires, but most likely the Germans have more knowledge of Quattro than we do !

Re: Does quattro dictate a tire rotation pattern

I just picked up a 2008 2.0 A4 and am looking at wheel rotation.

Given that the Quattro system is sensitive to tires with different wear rates, wouldn't including the spare into the rotation be beneficial?

Obviously this is only feasible since Audi was nice enough to include the spare tire on a matching alloy rim.

Also beneficial once I wear out the Pirelli P6's and get something better - I can change the spare to the better stuff as well.
